The litter tray

Cat is stuck 70ft up tree. Any idea how to get him down?

My cat has been missing all day. We eventually found him about 50ft up a tree in the woods nearby. He wouldn't move and we couldn't reach him so the fire service came out (we live on a military base so it's the local military fire service rather than civilian who don't respond re cats I don't think). They got up to him and he then went another 20ft up. They've had to leave with their ladder as they can't do anything. Any ideas how to get him down? He won't budge and has been up there for about 10 hours now.

How awful! We've used a very brave tree surgeon in the past, together with a lot a volunteers on the ground holding sheets in case of a fall.

Poor kitty. Can you put down some food and see if he can be brave enough to make it down by himself?

When my cat got stuck up a 50ft foot tree I sent Dp up and told him not to come down with out him , Dp eventually got to the top and the Cat ran down

I second a tree surgeon if it isn't down by the morning

Crikey! No idea. Poor cat. He's still up there? In the dark? I don't know if this is daft, not a cat owner, but if you leave him will he not just come down of his own accord?

He's still up there unfortunately. I think it may have to be a tree surgeon in the morning.

Are there a lot of people on the base you can rope in to hold out sheets underneath at the same time?

There are thankfully. Not much we can do in the dark though as the tree is in the middle of the woods and has no branches we can climb, hence he can't seem to get down. Phoned to rspca who say to phone back in the morn. Not much we can do but wait until it's light and hope he comes down somehow.

DH is a tree surgeon and has been to a fair few cat rescues over the last 30 years.
Usually the cat goes higher as he climbs up,sometimes they jump-have the big sheet ready.
Make sure the tree surgeon has big leather gauntlets as it is really hard not to drop a very ungrateful cat when you are being scratched and bitten,a tin of tuna helps and taking the cat basket up with them.
A really good tree surgeon can if the cat is right at the top partially cut the branch the cat is on with a hand saw to allow the weight of the cat to slowly lower but that takes skill and nerves of steel for both DH and cat owner.

That sounds quite bad reading it back.
None of the cats DH has been called to rescue have ever died and he must do 4 or 5 a year

Curlew is wrong I'm afraid. We have known a lot of cats get stuck up trees. Unfortunately the only way some come down is when they are too weak to hold on and just fall.

Thanks. We had to leave him overnight but there is no way I am leaving him today, waiting for it to get light and going to try to find someone who can help.

Fireman friend of mine says that once you get hold of a cat just put it to your chest, the cat will stay on.

Poor Kitty.

If you can't get a tree surgeon can the fire fighters put tuna at varionus points to tempt the cat down bit by bit?

When our cat did this we were told to put strong smelling food on the rungs of a ladder propped against the tree. We wrapped smoked salmon on the rungs, and she did eventually venture down.

Thanks, the problem is finding a ladder high enough to reach her. They can't get the fire truck close enough to the tree to use that, so it has to be a free standing ladder. Fingers crossed this works!

Oh how worrying. Our cat got out onto the roof of our house in the summer and it was so nervewracking. A slightly gung ho neighbour crawled along the roof to rescue her. I couldn't watch.

Hope the tree surgeon can help. Fingers crossed you get him safely down soon.

He's still there but I've finally found a tree surgeon who is on his way to try to help. Fingers crossed we can get him down!
