How long can your cat cross its legs for?

I'm in a stand off situation with my cat

I need a urine sample from my cat by 3pm

I normally let him out about 7.30 but he's been shut in the conservatory since 7am and he hasn't been near the litter tray

He keeps sitting mournfully next to the French doors

I've told him he can go out as soon as he's been for a wee but nothing

He's not going to do it is he?

PS - Seriously, could you position him on the tray in a hopeful endeavour?

He'll likely get off in high dudgeon and stalk away - but then come back 5-10 minutes later to use it.

I've sat him there and rubbed he's front paws in it like you do with kittens

He's got out and just looks distain fully at the horrible little white balls -he can see the bush he usually pops under from where he is -I'm feeling mean

The little plastic balls you get from the vets

On the rare occasions the litter trays get used its wooden pellets so very different

I use a quickly positioned saucer with Seniorboy which works fine if he deigns to pee. (What I do now is get a labelled container and pipette from the vet well beforehand and arrange to collect the pee and take it in in the 'few days before his appointment'. That not only takes the strain off but enables the practice to do the analysis just before the vet consult so that she has the results while he's there.)

A saucer?? He's only 9 months so he'd never stay still long enough

Plan was to drop a sample in this morning then take him this afternoon -might have to rebook for next week

It's only to see if he can come off his special food

I thought you meant how long can it sit crossed-legged for...imagining mine sat in a chair daintily with her legs crossed sorry - i'm off now.....

He has a special antique saucer from a coffee can set - maybe a bit deeper and less wide than a normal one.

It's perfectly doable - you just have to wait until they actually 'commit' to the pee. If you slip the saucer under while they're still scratch-preparing, they'll likely just stalk away. (As it is, you still get an old-fashioned look.) You'll probably only catch about 2/3 of the full pee but that's more than enough to fill the container for the practice - and there's no faffing around with white balls dirty litter trays.

He's not done it, appointment pushed back to 5.30 and now they are worried he has a blockage -he doesn't, he's just bloody stubborn!

I did and now I've got to take him for an ultrasound and they will extract some urine under sterile conditions as his sample results were full of crystals but he isn't displaying any symptoms
