Cat: Following Me

My cat has started to follow me down the street. It is getting embarrassing. I can't out walk him! He starts galloping after me. Last week he got into the car. I am worried about him following me onto the main road, I live in a cul de sac so its not bad with traffic.

I get back home, he's waiting for me at the door or in the street. Has anyone else had a cat that did this? Did you discourage it?

The Lodger used to do it all the time - he treated cars as a minor inconvenience but I reckon he must have had precious few of his lives left.

You'll need to start sneaking out of the house and seeing if you can get away from him that way.

None of mine have done it, but then I have a porch with two doors at the front which acts as a sort of cat airlock :) so none would get the chance. I've known people whose cats do that though.

It's dangerous and you need to stop it however you can.

Mine followed me to the station once. I chased them back halfway. They were waiting in the pouring rain in the same spot when I came home. Now I distract them with food, then leg it.

My two also do this , though one is more daring than the other. RiskyBoy would follow me all the way to the shops if I let him, and will also hop straight into the car the moment a door is open ( and that's not just my car ). TimidBoy will follow me just because his brother is, but if I go too far he'll leg it back to the house. I end up having to jog back to the house, cats sprinting along between my legs having great fun, and locking them in, before I set off again. I think they'd love me to run around the park with them, and I would love too aswell, just too ashamed of what the neighbours will think of me !
