The litter tray

Does your cat really not like one specific flavour from a multipack?

Rice really likes fish and two out of three of the Butcher's classic fish variety pack but keeps turning her nose up at the haddock flavour. She'll eat the first dish from the tin and maybe a bit of the second but then she won't eat it at all. First time she did it I was worrying that she was off her food but today she's been complaining at me like she has no food, then ignoring the new bowl of haddock flavour I give her and asking for food. I remembered that it was the haddock flavour she wasn't eating last time so I opened a tin of chicken flavour and she's wolfed it down.

I have 5 packs of fish flavour Classic (i.e. ten tins of haddock flavour) in the cupboard. Does anyone have a cat who really likes it but dislikes one of the other flavours and would like to swap?

Should I keep buying the fish flavour even though she doesn't like one of the flavours? I'd like to keep giving her a variety of flavours in case she gets bored and fussy but it seems wasteful to buy a multipack when I know she won't eat a third of it.

None of mine really have the opportunity to be that picky. However I am forever getting parcels of cat food left on my doorstep, all of one particular flavour of one type of food, from various neighbours with the same problem:)

Celia Hammonds also have collection points in various supermarkets and Pets at Home for people to donate food, and we frequently get big bags of all one flavour, so it's obviously very common.

Maybe your local charity also has collection points, at least your unwanted food would be doing some good then ...

Sparkling Cat will only eat Felix as Good as it Looks and only Fish flavour. That's it. Sad

My kitten only likes Good as it Looks as well, and turns his nose up at the beef. However, he will eat it if you a) get another sachet and pretend to put some in his bowl or b) take his bowl away as if to chuck the food and leave it on the kitchen side - as I discovered when I forgot to clean his bowl out and found him on the kitchen side, eating the beef he'd been refusing to eat earlier...

I'd give them to a local charity if you can.

None of my recent or present clutch of cats like beef flavoured anything. None of them have been particularly 'fishy' cats either, although these will all tolerate all of the Butchers Classic (meat or fish). The beef variety stinks though, I can't blame them for not liking it much.

By preference, they are chicken eaters (along with a wide variety of crap from voles to flies outside - bleurr)

Hmm. I think I may have figured out that her problem isn't the flavour but what fridge it was kept in. We normally keep her food in the under counter fridge and feed her in the living room, but if she's really demanding food then I'll put her bowl down in front of the fridge which means that I have to put the rest of the tin (in a box) in the fridge freezer. She seems to now be rejecting the chicken flavour that has been in the non-normal fridge because her face was in the way of the other fridge earlier. That or she doesn't want to eat the chicken flavour because the flat smells of the ham in the oven.
