The litter tray

Cat keeps pooing inside in the same place - how do I stop her?

We've had her about a month. A rescue cat. She was fine when we had a litter tray and kept her inside. Then once she was allowed out, we moved the tray outside and then got rid of it altogether. She was fine for a short time then we went away for two days (the neighbour came in to feed/stroke her) and she's started pooing (and, on occasion, weeing) inside. I'm so sick of clearing it up, and it's in the kids play area, which is grim. Also concerned the house is beginning to smell despite me going mad with the cilit bang. How do I train her not to do it?

Thanks v much

I'd get the litter tray back even though she goes outside. She may prefer pooing etc inside the house - some cats do, particularly if they feel a little insecure outside.

Is there any alternative? I was really hoping to avoid the daily scooping of poo from the tray and the smell etc?

Appreciate that but it's worth having if only as a back up. I'd also recommend (from bitter recent experience) that you dig over your earth properly to make the flowerbeds easier and quicker to use. If you haven't done that yet this year, they're likely still hard and crusty.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Will do that this afternoon. Thank you

i'd reinstate the tray. once cats begin a habit it's hard to break, better to have it contained to a litter tray than all over the house.

My cat started poo-ing behind my TV stand - and the only thing that's worked is putting a balloon there. He is scared of balloons and so doesnt go near there anymore.

Not sure if it'll work for you though Confused
