I love unusual names for cats, we are getting a kitten soon so looking for inspiration. Do your cats name suit their personality?

My cats are Rewind and The Reverend... A tad unusual!

We sought inspiration from our favourite sitcom Grin needless to say, it makes me quite recognisable (the vet always sniggers when calling us in) but we chose a 70s hotel based sitcom...

(in fact, I had the girl cat name earmarked for a dd, but the cat came first!)

My Siamese is called Willow, not so unusual I suppose - but it suits her, she looks all elegant but inside she's as thick as wood, lol

My wee tabby is called Flump - I think it suits her, my friend says the other cats in the street laugh at it though Grin you do get to say things have been flumped after she's mauled them though, which is a great phrase.

My Christmas tree gets flumped every year.

Gininformation this is FAR more interesting than a babyname thread.

No one has suggested Savanna with no H? [Bitchy emoticon]

Mine are named after famous ballet dancers (well, one of their namesakes became more famous as a choreographer).

Unsurprisingly enough, both cats have the easy grace & flexibility of dancers & blond!kitten is an creative genius in his own way.

They are also very fond of my ballet stuff: have more than once discovered one of them wearing one of my leotards like a cape; my practice skirts are frequently pounced on/played with/battled/cuddled; my ballet books are particularly popular perches; trying to put my tights on with cats present can be tricky as they try to involve themselves in the process; and I have more than once found blond!kitten cuddling a pointe shoe. (Have to be very carefully with shoes that have ribbons on: they would be considered Highly Desirable Toys by the cats & shredded ribbons would NOT be good!)

Both cats can definitely carry their Dignified Full Names but also suit the abbreviated versions of them. They do also get called Random Things like Sir Squooshalot & Lord Squooshington (by me) or That Stripy Bastard & Shiva (by my brother). Given they are incredibly snuggly-cuddly but also prone to mischief, all those seem to fit quite well!

Mine is marquesa Gatta Misteriosa, hunter of legs. But day to day she is Misty.

It evolved from her being 'mystery cat', things are sometimes Mystified by her.

I think my favorite cat name is Scratch Fury, and I did have a flickerstick ad a Jacob (foster cats that arrived with no home).

My cousin has a banjax which I love, and I have heard good things about Thomas Henry Moggins.

Are you in Blackpool, there can't be two cats called Chicken can there?

I now have Rosie aka Evil Cat and Bert aka the Ginger Moron Grin

My friend had kittens called Reggie (Kray) and Jethro (Leeroy Jethro Gibbs NCIS) Grin

I love the idea of cats called Sharon and Nigel.

oh and there's a cat in our street called Stewart!

Ours also have Dignified Full Names and then many, many derivatives of those that they actually get called. Simple cat's DFN doesn't suit him at all because he is anything but dignified. Angry cat's DFN is a Roman Emperor and it suits him very well indeed.

And, of course, they both have that one true ineffable name which we humans will never be party to Grin

I have 2 Siamese. The female is called Scout and the male is Grover. I now get mixed up and call my dd both these names! Grin

cozietoesie · 20/04/2013 10:15

Our family Siamese cats have always had the same name because the Siamese have nearly always been singletons. (For umpty years.) They get add-ons like 'Jones The Post' and 'Jones The Garage' and so on. It's a family tradition.

Doesn't half make life complicated at the vets though. Hmm

Ours came with the name Rice, we've come to the conclusion that she must have been part of a pair and the other one was called curry or something.

I like the name Oscar for a cat and DP wants a cat called Dog.

I have Gruber Cat Prince of Darkness? who showed his love for me last night by climbing on to my lap and

Farting!

Report

Cat farts are the worst aren't they? As a follow up to the cats knowing when you're upset thread, I was ill the other week so DP went out without me and proceeded to get very drunk and not come home til quite late. I got upset because I'm soppy and can't go to sleep without DP. Rice's effort to cheer me up was the most noxious smelling fart in the history of farts. It was so bad that I went hunting for the poo that she must have done because I've never experienced a fart with the smell and staying power of this one.
