The litter tray

Cat toilet habits

The DCats have finally realised that going outside is great and spend alot of the day outside if we are at home (no cat flap, they go in and out of a window which we leave open). The problem is they insist on coming in to use the litter tray! I wish they would go poo elsewhere because I hate cleaning the tray out and DH only does it when I tell him to rather than noticing it needs doing.

Also DCat 2 doesn't seen to realise that all of him needs to be in the tray before he poos, not just his front paws, so he often misses.

I would start by moving the litter tray outside. Also putting some of their poo out of the tray and into the garden.

But... I don't want them to poo in my garden!

Only joking but I wish they would realise that they can go into the field and poo and it would bother nobody!

I will try putting the tray in the garden, but they will still need somewhere to go to the toilet when they are shut in.

DH says I should shut them outside so they can't come in to use the litter tray but I don't see why they should be shut out, and besides DCat2 has the loudest miaow ever and it'd upset the neighbours because he yowls until we open it if the window isn't open for him to get in.

I used to put it outside (under the patio table) when they were out. And then bring it in if she was shut in.

Someone else was having this problem recently and it was suggested that they might not be able to dig because the ground is frozen solid.
