We've lost our little batcat

So called because he used to sit waiting for us by the glass panel next to the front door, and his silhouette was batman to a tee. It was very sudden, one day his normal Mr Shouty pants, the next weeing blood, he had a massive bladder tumour, and he's gone. Both me and DP are in bits, a year ago our lives were blessed with three furry boys who have brought such joy and love (and the occasional dead rabbit, ornamental goldfish ...) for 17 years, and over the last 12 months we've lost them all.

When we lost jake and Dylan, mr shouty pants (or zeb to give him his proper name) was beside himself and we poured everything into looking after him, and he has left such a hole. The house is so empty, DP couldn't eat his Sunday roast because it just hit him that zeb wasn't there to share it and wouldn't be again. I know, we're a pair of utter softies but no point in having them and not loving them is there?

Sorry this is a rambly post, but I'm hoping that people on here will understand how much losing them hurts and have some wise words to help us through this.

I'm so sorry. The wee furries do wheedle their way into your heart, but as you say, what would be the point if we didn't live them? Poor little Zeb. But he had a lovely life and it sounds as though he didn't suffer too much at the end. to you and your DH.

Wouldn't have missed a moment with them. Such good memories, of being killed by the rush up the stairs when the call of "beddy boes" rang out, jakes face when he discovered the bed had an electric blanket, dilly cuddles where he would wrap both front paws round my neck and stick his nose in my ear and snuggle as close as possible. And my lovely zeb who cried to be carried to bed - and we did - and woe betide you if you weren't ready to jump into bed.

Thank your for letting me share and vent the grief, DP has quite literally cried himself to sleep but I can't sleep.

It's bloody awful when you lose them but what lovely memories. Hold them tight. If you didn't love then life would be so much easier but sooooo much poorer. Bloody cats!

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's heartbreaking and bittersweet but you can take so much comfort in the fact that you and dp gave 3 cats a happy, stable, comfortable and loving home and were loved equally in return by your 3 furry boys

I'm so sorry for your losses. Feel awful that your DH cried himself to sleep too. It's so so painful. It's a real bereavement and you need time to come to terms with it. Pull a couple of sickies tomorrow and have an at home PJ day. Your boys sound wonderful and FWIW, I'm still gutted at losing my boy in October but it does ease and you will remember the happy times. We lost our lovely Jas to cancer 3 years ago, he was 14. Oscar, my baby, is 19 next week and I'll be in bits when he goes.

If it's any consolation, I can look back as Jasper's life and smile now. He had a great life and lots of love. Your 3 sounds amazing, I hope you can remember all the good times too. xxx

Oh really, I am in tears reading this, I know only too well the heartache of losing wretched cats furry babies, but have to say I am sure that they had such a spoilt, blessed life with you both, unmumsnetty hugs to you both!

What lovely things you say about your cats, though. These things, although painful now, will be cherished and happy memories in months and years to come.

I lost my girlcat last October and it does get easier. Grieving is natural.

Oh im so sorry they obviously had the best mummy and daddy. Like you we have lost furry babies and the whole they leave is only slightly smaller than the mark they make on our hearts. Treasure your memories. Xxxxx
