Cat had a fit

My lovely boy cat had some kind of fit last night Sad going to the vet in the morning but I just wondered if anyone had experience of this at all?

He is 3 years old, seems perfectly happy, eating, pooing etc all seem normal. The only thing I can think of was he was a bit stressed out by my other cat being away to be spayed. Any ideas what it could be?

Was it definitely a fit (ie lying on the floor, unaware of surroundings, fitting)? Or was it more of a panic attack (ie still conscious but shaking, eyes darting and crying)?

I've had a cat that had stress related panic attacks.

I've also had a few cats who have had fits, and in all cases it was the beginning of the end. However in all these cases they were very old/ill anyway. I've never known it to happen to an apparently young and healthy cat. It could be epilepsy. But really there is no point in worrying/trying to diagnose until you see the vet. As he is young and healthy it hopefully won't be anything life-threatening.

I have several happy treatable causes of fits in young cats toxoplasmosis being the most common so make a blood test is sent for a titre for this. I also have one young cat with epilepsy who is very well on meds (this a diagnosis made after lots of tests for other things and an MRI).

He was scrabbling about on the floor and he wet himself so yeah I think it was a real fit sadly. I really hope it is nothing serious. What will the vet do to diagnose? To make things worse he is not a good patient!

Cross post, that's interesting about toxoplasmosis I didn't know that could cause fits. He is an indoor cat could he still have that?

What did the vet say Hamnvik?

They said it might just be a one off so they wont test for anything yet and just to bring him back in if it happens again.
He is also being tested for feline asthma as he had a bit of a rattle in his chest, I'm guessing the fit was unrelated to that though.

So fingers crossed it won't happen again!

Hello Op elderly tom started having fits at nearly 17. He is thriving at 19 :-) and takes daily meds for his epilepsy as well as a heart condition. I hope it is a one off for your kitty, fits are very frightening to see.
