Do you celebrate your cats' birthdays?

The Zebra Kittens will be one on the 3rd of April & I quite want to mark the occasion. They had such a rubbish start to life that I want them to have Lovely Things as far as possible. I'm on a v limited income but kittens come ahead of my Wants so they get proper-meat wet foods (Almo/Applaws/Bozita/Encore/Lily's Kitchen) & then Almo/Hills/James Wellbeloved/Royal Canin dry; I give them cat!toothpaste (the sort you just feed them a bit of) at night; they take a multivitamin they think is a delicious treat; I groom them regularly & carefully; they have a range of toys (lots hand-me-downs from friend's cats but all in perfect condition)... (Please note they are not totally spoiled though: they know there are Rules & - generally - follow them & I will move them so I can sit down etc. I am not completely Under The Paw...)

Anyhow, I suppose what I'm blethering about is that they do generally have Nice Things but I'd still quite like to make their birthday Special. They got some new toys at Christmas & had wet food for both meals (normally have breakfast wet & dinner dry) & had some treats & cat milk. They were in fact the only ones celebrating thanks to Christmas Being Cancelled for the humans.

So, do you mark your feline friends' birthdays? (Or adoption days if you don't know the former, one of my friends does that latter for her rescue kitty...) If so, what sort of things do you do? (My wildly overactive imagination is now spinning off into imagining cats having parties - not necessarily with their humans - with party games & presents & cake & so on. What would you put in a party-bag for a cat? Would you invite ALL the local cats or just your friends' cats? Party at home or hiring softplay or a trip to the theatre? Cats climbing the curtains after too many treats. Cats having tantrums because they didn't win pass-the-parcel. Cats in fancy-dress as humans. Cats singing "Happy Birthday"...)

It seems impossible the little moppets can be 10.5m old (& have lived here for 8.5m!) already, even though they've just had another growth-spurt & look increasingly like Grown Up Cats Not Tiny Baby Kittens.

I do try to make sure the kittens feel Loved And Special every day & I know celebrating their birthday would mostly be for me (& my Bother, if he;s about, as he is soppy as anything about them) but would it make me Scary Crazy Cat Lady (C4 documentary waiting to happen)? It's a normal thing to do, right?

Hmmm.

No offence, but you sound as if you might already be a 'scary crazy cat lady.'

I usually give my lovely cat a treat like half a tin of tuna on his birthday. He was born on 29th February 2000, so coming up to 13. We celebrate on the 28th on non-leap years.

A lovely, kind, and caring scary cat lady though.

Myself and Crazycat share the same birthday...so she just usually gets a drunken slobbering saying "mummy luffs you sooooo much"...and then we both fall over Grin

I never have done, but my dear Oscar is 19 this year and every day is a blessing. I don't know his exact birth date, so we'll celebrate some time in April.

He can have tuna and his usual cuddles. :)

er no i dont my brother and sister combo were born around the middle of june, the ginger one i know his exact birthday because he was only ten days old when brought into the rescue and the half siamese was around 7 months when i adopted him, i usually get past thier birthdays and think oops thier a year older, as cats dont have any concept of birthdays,

And you sound utterly charming Branleuse Hmm

To be clear, I am talking about maybe giving them some treats etc. I'm not planning cards or cake or singing happy birthday to them.

As I said, I know celebrating their birthday would mostly be for me - the mostly was because whilst they've no concept of birthdays (though they were quite keen on the wrapping paper generated by mine) I'm sure they'd appreciate getting some catmilk or whatever...

We celebrate Dcats birthday. Well we know roughly how old she was when we got Herndon extrapolated back and she'll be 13 on 7th march so very similar in age to Mintyys cat :)

Absolutely! Sadly, we lost seniorboy's birth certificate while clearing my mom's house when she died - so we've given him an 'Official Birthday' (like the Queen) of Xmas Day. He gets roast chicken,

He's 18. For a Siamese that's a grand age.

You sound like me.Am crazy cat lady and proud.I celebrate cats birthdays they are a big part of my family and any excuse to spoil them...Loving your idea of a party, you could have pin the tail on the mouse ,dont invite my two though cos the ginger boy would eat all the cake and the naughty tortie would break all the presents and get in a huff if she didnt win pass the parcel.Enjoy them and dont worry what anyone one thinks.

crazynanna your post made me chuckle and have the best ever mental picture of you and your cat falling over!
We don't celebrate my DCats birthday, we have no idea when she was born or even what year. She could be anything between 10 and 14 for all we know. She's still so active and playful, but she's definitely an old lady cat now.

Your post reminded me of Grin

It is the cuddles that are most important, no? My pair certainly think so: one morning I thought my brother'd fed them when he'd not & they v patiently came & snuggled up with me while I faffed about for half an hour or so before going downstairs & realising...

cozietosie
That is a truly venerable age for a Siamese: pretty good for any cat, in fact! I like the idea of him having an official birthday. Does he let you have the day off work as you're his loyal subjects? Wink

Am sure there's a children's book in the Cat's Birthday Party idea...

MrsBeep
My Daddy's cat (who v sadly & suddenly had to be put down last week Sad) was similarly ageless although less able to be active as she'd had a VERY rough time of things before she went to live with Daddy. She was generally quite aloof, mind you, so would probably have felt a birthday was beneath her Grin
