The litter tray

What should I do about stray cat?

There's been a lovely little ginger kitten hanging round our house all day, no collar but looks healthy, very friendly. Not sure what to do with him. Dh brought him in for a bit earlier, but our cat (who is currently caged with a broken leg - playing with cars, silly cat) hissed at him, so don't want to keep him in all night as it doesn't seem fair to our cat.

I was thinking of putting out some food, then taking it to vet in the morning to see if it's chipped. Don't want to encourage it too much, current daft cat has cost us £2000 due to broken leg so can't afford another cat.

If I put food out though, will it want to move in with us?!

How old would you say it is? It might be lost.

I'd be tempted to keep it and ring the local vets in the morning and the rescue shelters just to see if anyone's lost a kitten.

Worst case scenario is someone's put it out and isn't letting it back in.

Kittens are easy prey that's why I'd keep it in, plus it's cold and he won't have that really thick winter coat feral cats get.

Please keep an eye on it (take it in overnight if at all possible) and phone round the vets/rescues. If it's only a kitten it probably isn't used to being outside and won't have much in the way of street sense.
