The litter tray

wiping the cats bum.

The Inconticat has got to the point where he is parading round my living room with a poo-covered bum every night until DH gets up in the morning and has to grab him by the tail and wet-wipe his bum.

The cat is 18yo, I have been grooming him for the last 6 months because he can't/ won't groom himself.

I have a 2YO. Sometimes the shit is everywhere.

The cat is already on steriods to prevent the poo 'dropping' problem he had a while back.

He stares vacantly, lies down in strange places sometimes.

He is eating and drinking ok.

DH refuses to have the PTS conversation.

It's me that is going to have to keep on top of bum-wiping duty if he starts doing this in the day, and TBH, I'm just not up for it. It's too cold to put him outside.

WWYD?

Honestly? Not sure u will like it but does sound as if u are contemplating it secretly....

I'd speak to the vet about putting him down.

There it's said. It's in the open! I don't know what I'd do, but I def would have The Chat. If vet was supportive tbh I'd probably do it. But it really depends on ur views on his quality of life vs the family.

So sorry as 18yrs is a damn fine age for a furry beast and I bet u love/loved him deeply. Good luck in ur choices.

Cat nappy?
www.dog-nappy.co.uk/default.asp - they have a cat design as well as dog.

I would use these,

Nappies for incontinent & spraying cats.

There is no way on god's earth I am changing the nappy of a cat.

I think I have got my answer right there haven't I?

He can go outside. He has a fur coat. I would make him a little den and let him poo away to his heart's content out there. It could be a lovely festive cat grotto (grotty, perhaps).

Your DH can change it!

I think you do need to be having that conversation. Awful though it isSad

I had a little den outside for a different (now deceased cat).

Inconticat doesn't understand he can use it. If I put him outside he just screeches pitifully at the front window.

His fur is not warm enough. It's greasy and mats together, even right after I've brushed it. I have a dry shampoo and a furmintor brush so I can get him de-dreaded but it mats up so fast :(

I'm away until Sunday night.

Maybe DH will come to his own conclusions.

He loves that cat.

I think you have your answer, if a nappy is not an option.
Sad

Poor Inconticat. Maybe the vet can do something for him, but if not, poor you.

I really hated the stage with Prolapsedbowelcat (practical vet just gave me lessons in pushing it back in and PBC became used to it to the point that she would shuffle over with her tail in the air in answer to 'bum bum bum' calls) and if surgery hadn't worked in short order it would definitely have been goodnight Vienna for her. We didn't have children in the house at the time, either and I think my finger-up-the-cat's-arse patience would have run out much more quickly had I been in your situation.

I think when a cat gets to the point they don't groom themselves it's a general sign that their quality of life is poor. I would chat to Vet about PTS option to help me decide when was the right time, even if not now. If nothing else you need to get your head around what you feel comfortable with, and I'd need to have a few chats with Vet to know where that point was for me.

I got back, asked Dh how the cat was, got told 'better'.

He's got horrendous runny diarrhoea and fell over in the tray while he was doing it. I've put him outside and he's gone to the bed in the shed, so I reckon he spent a lot of the weekend in there.

I have made a vets appointment for tonight so DH can take him later.

I am at the PTS point now. I don't know why DH can't see it. The cat is matted, covered in shit and non-responsive. FFS this is a tragedy for him. :(

DH 'couldn't get back' from work in time Hmm but could send me notifications that he's played his turns on an iphone game

So I schlepped down there with two kids and a cat wet from having his arse washed in the kitchen sink.

There's nothing they can do for him so he's booked in to be PTS tomorrow. If DH 'can't' get back from work then the cat will have to go without him :(

Sad - poor wet cat. And poor you.

Ahhh I'm all right. I just posted for a bit of assurance that I'm not grossly unreasonable.

It's time for the cat, I don't feel guilty, just a bit sad. But the relief is the main thing, awful as it is to say it.

Sorry to read this but I can't blame you at all. The time has come, you mustn't feel guilty, you've given the cat 18 good years.

Thinking of you tomorrow
