Cats & allergies.

I think my husband is mildly allergic to our cats. He gets quite chesty if there's too much cat hair about & he's forever scratching his legs at night (the cats do sleep on the bed). When we moved recently the cats stayed elsewhere for a few weeks & he had no symptoms, but they appeared again within days of the cats joining us.

The cats are now 14 & 15, I've had them longer than I've known my husband & would really hate to rehome them now. Is there anything I can do to try & reduce his symptoms other than regular brushing, de-fleaing etc.

Or is there anything he can take to reduce his symptoms. To be fair to him he has never suggested rehoming them, but he does suffer.

Can't you just shut them in the kitchen at night? If he is allergic to them having them on your bed at night is the last thing you should do.

At the moment we don't have any doors on the rooms so shutting them anywhere isn't an option.

Piriton last thing at night then. I can't think of anything else.

Anti-histamines?

Does he have an inhaler ? My DH gets this asthmatic reaction to cats (but more extreme than your DH), and the inhaler helps.

Other things would be to ensure cats stay out of the bedroom, and the seat he sits in most often.

Thanks will try the allergy wipes & I think we'll get the bedroom door put up ASAP! They won't like being banished from the bedroom but I think they'll live!
