my siamese cat had a really weird half an hour today.
i thought we were going to lose him.
he tried to be sick (not uncommon for him) but then walked away and stood really still with his eyes closed and a long drool of saliva hanging from his mouth as if he couldn't swallow.

he didn't respond to me and when i went over after a few minutes to comfort him he walked away and stood somewhere he never stands - he then had his mouth open for a while (stressed i guess).it was horrible.

anyway after a while he was ok again but it was scary to see.

he has a bit of history - was ill when he was a year old and on tablets for an irreg heart but has been in good health for a few years now.he's 6 and an indoor cat.as a result of prev ill health he does have a few off days from time to time (quite delicate bless him) and he has been off his cat food for a day or so but will eat ham.he is drinking a bit more than usual but weeing ok.

has anyone seen this sort of thing before??

That must have been very terrifying for you to see. I have never experienced anything like this but the two possibilities that sprung to mind were a seizure or a stroke. Combined with his lack of interest in food over the past few days I would definitely take him to the vet ASAP - disinterest in food is often a sign of pain/ serious illness in cats.

My (late) cat did breathe with her mouth open in times of extreme stress, as she grew older. She also had asthma though which restricted her breathing.

Go to your vet this morning. A seizure is possible, also given prior cardiac issues he needs his chest checked out. Hope all is ok now.
