The litter tray

Should I take my cat to the vets?

A bit of background: she's 2 years old and we adopted her from the RSPCA back in April. She's settled in really well, and is a friendly active little thing.

She's normally really mad for her food, pestering you to be fed the minute you walk in the door. The last two days though she's been a bit subdued - she normally wolfs her food down in about 30 seconds flat but it took her a few hours yesterday. Today I got home at 2pm and her dry food had been largely untouched since 7am. I offered her a snack and she got pretty excited about it, she then ate most of her breakfast. I went in the kitchen a few hours later to find she'd sicked it all up :( - now she hasn't really touched her tea.

I'm not going to let her out now, so I can see whether she has diarrhoea or is sick again. Just re-reading all this makes me think I've answered my own question - I should take her to the vets shouldn't I?

I would. If my normally ravenous cat was suddenly not that fussed. Just to be on the safe side (and especially with the weekend coming up-it will cost double if you have to do 'out of hours'). Hope she's ok.

Hmm - so I remembered we had a tin of Kit-e-Kat in the cupboard (she's been eating aldi pouches in the evening for months) and put it out in a different bowl and she's gobbled it all up. We'll see whether she keeps it down now...

Hope she's not being a minx and doing the usua cat 'I am going to stop eating what I have been happily eating for ages for no reason' thing. See how she is overnight and cover whole house in newspaper.

Thanks all - I shall be keeping a close eye on her tonight. She likes to sleep actually ON me, so I hope things don't get messy!!

could just be a huge fur ball brewing
old cat yakked every day
current cat yaks only for fur balls - but they can be up to 8cm long

Well, no sickness or diahorrea since yesterday afternoons vom. But she was sluggish eating her breakfast this morning so I made an appointment at the vet. Then, quite pathetically, I couldn't get her into the carrier (this is normally DH's job, but he's at work) so cancelled the appointment. She does genuinely seem better this afternoon and has been pestering for food again so I'll see how weekend goes.

This is the first winter we've had a cat. Is it normal that they go a bit sluggish at this time of year? Do they get colds and flu?
