No one has died and everything is broadly ok but I am just having the shittest month ever.

DH is unexpectedly away at Christmas (Forces), we were supposed to go to my DM and DF 3 hrs away so all the kids presents are there in preparation and we have no tree etc. My SIL had minor elective surgery last week which has caused her no end of bother and she has now been readmitted, so my parents are caring for her fodder and baby whilst my brother is with her in hospital.

We were supposed to go up tomorrow but all bets are off until we know what's going on with her and the kids. Rubbish for them.

I am knackered and at the end of my tether with my 3 grumpy kids and really want them to have a nice Christmas so they don't feel their dad's absence too much.

I know it's selfish but WTF can I do at short notice with no chuffing presents etc to have a decent emergency Xmas if we can't go away! Funds are not unlimited but I could chuck a bit of money at it without rebuying all the presents.

If you are forces, is there anything happening Christmas Day on camp? I'm not, but live in a very forces town, and they always seem to have stuff for families as I guess a fair few will have husbands away...

Or go to the supermarket and let then choose anything they want for a picnic Xmas lunch. Loads of crappy food, in pjs in the front room with duvets and pillows watching telly all day. Sounds like bliss!
