How much to pay teenager to dog sit

I am going away for a couple of days and have asked a local teenager (aged 14) to walk the dogs, let them out in the morning, feed them and put them to bed in the evening. She is very very close in distance and this would take probably an hour of her time. How much would you pay her per day?

So will the dogs will be alone 23hrs a day? I would probably pay more and have her in/walking them for much longer, but at a reasonable hourly rate for her dog daycare may be cheaper (our local daycare is £20 for a sleepover in owners home).

£5-10 a day

Not sure I'd be happy giving that responsibility to a 14 year old (Facebook and wild parties spring to mind!) - but if you're 100% confident then I'd have her in for longer and pay accordingly. You are giving her responsibility for your most expensive asset as well as your beloved dog!

I don't think you should leave them for 23 hours in a day. Can she stay longer?

That aside, £10 a day.

We had a teenager in to babysit our dog for two days and one night. I asked him to stay in the house as it was a weekend so no school. He was 17 and doing A levels, really sensible and lives near enough for his parents to keep an eye!

I gave him clear ground rules - he could come and go as he pleased but was not to leave dog in house alone more than 3hrs at any point, had to walk dog twice, feed twice, water check frequently, put to bed anytime as long as allowed final wee and had to get up in morning for first wee by 8am. I also said he was to allow dog to be near him when he was in house and downstairs rather than leave dog alone in kitchen behind stair gate. I paid £30 for the weekend and left a shepherds pie in fridge with lots of other food and a note telling him to eat whatever he liked.
They seemed happy together and whenever I text him he answered straight away with little comments on the dog!

He is now 18 and I'm wondering about leaving him for a weekend with dog, DS1 who is 13 and DS2 who is 9 but that could be a massive step too far!

Yup I think someone needs to be staying not just coming in to walk them and put to bed. That said if they stay then I think £15/day minimum.
