Dog insurance for an older newly adopted dog

We adopted a dog about 4 months ago. We were told he was 7/8 but his passport says 9 and our vet thinks nearer 10. We are going to go with what is on his passport. We've been looking into insurance and some won't insure over 8 and others are so expensive, £50+ a month. Any recommendations please?

I am not sure if things have changed but as far as I know, most won't provide insurance for dogs older than 11 years old unless they have been "clients" from younger.

Try Pet Plan, Tesco insurance and Direct Line (no harm in ringing as many as possible), you can also use comparethemarket.com, gocompare.co.uk, etc.

I pay about £35 a month for an older dog, but he has always been very healthy which I think is the reason my premiums have not rocketed too badly (he has been with the same insurance provider for at leaat 12 years).

To be honest that's the sort of figure I would expect for new cover for an older dog.

The owner of this website has posted here before and it might be helpful in identifying suitable providers: www.pet-insurance-surveys.co.uk/

Animal friends are really good and take Into consideration dogs health not only their age. Our 9 year old staffy is registered with them, any claims have been dealt with quickly and easily and always easy to get through to for any advice you need. Would definately give them a call as there are more options on the phone than on their website :)
