Dog deterrents?

Following my post in the wwyd? section of the board, I've been looking at deterrents to stop next door's dog using my drive as a toilet spot, as the owner is not good at clearing it up. Does anyone have any experience with the sonic deterrents? Do they work? Would they bother the dog when it is in the house, as if so it would be no good? Any advice on other deterrents that could work would be much appreciated!

I'd pick it up and dump it all back on their doorstep. In a great big pile.

Sorry, no other valid advice from me. I've no experience of deterrents, and really its the owners fault isn't it. They are the ones who need deterring!

Yeah I have been picking it up, as otherwise it ends up on my pushchair wheels, but I'm getting fed up of having to do it- so looking for a solution that doesn't involve me, a plastic bag and a closer relationship than I'd like with someone else's dog muck! Totally agree re. owner but sadly they don't sell neighbour deterrents!

Set up CCTV ,take a picture of offending neighbour not picking it up and give it to the council ,a few fines should do the trick .

Floral, I didn't think the council would be interested as it's on private land? Slarty, does pepper actually work? Im doubtful that just washing the area would work? Thanks for ideas!

In that case perhaps the non emergency police would be interested as surely leaving dog mess on your neighbours property constitutes anti social behaviour . If you get them an ASBO they may end up not being able to live there! either way filming is the way to go , it's not fair to put pepper/ chilli powder down as that only affects the dog and it's not his / her fault that he's got a crap owner.

Apparently pepper works, no experience of it myself but a friend said it stopped next doors dog going on her grass...

This week Aldi are selling dog and cat deterrent spray.

Do you have a gate to your drive? If so I believe that it constitutes trespass by the neighbour, even if the gate is shut. It's horrible picking up after other peoples' dogs (and worse if you're just on your way out). If you don't have a gate could you put some sort of temporary barrier across the drive, in the hope that the dog will learn to poo elsewhere? Pepper spray may work ...

Are they chumhum, thanks, will look at that! Unfortunately Mitchellmummy it is our drive but the neighbour has to walk over it to get to their door. It is described in the deeds as them having 'walking rights only' to get to their door. But as they have no garden and rarely walk the dog properly, they boot it out to crap on my drive. Floral, I agree it isn't the dog's fault at all. I feel sorry for it. I think I may go down the security camera route, as it would also solve a problem I've had with damage done to my car. Also the dog has a tendency to snap at people (and has made contact before)so would be useful should I need evidence of that in the future. I do feel sorry for the poor dog but it is driving me up the wall with the barking and pooing and snapping!

Mmm, tricky one. Dogs tend to poo in the same place so it's now a habit. CCTV seems like a good plan!
