My 7 month old collie x lab just stole the remains of a chicken drumstick (cooked) and swallowed it whole. She didn't chew it just swallowed it. Plus a mini baby bel cheese but the chicken bone is more concerning.

Can it hurt her bearing in mind she didn't crunch the bone up?

I wouldn't worry so much if it went down whole as not crushed or splintered. The acid in a dogs stomach and digestive system can digest bone very well. Our dogs all eat raw and consume a huge amount of bone and it never comes out the other end, but I know cooked bone is much harder!

If you are worried ring your vet, I myself won't but each owner is different.

Dogs are so greedy!

Thanks for the reply. She seems okay and is currently out fox hunting in the back garden! Will keep an eye and maybe phone vet for advice in the morning.

My lab found a whole cooked turkey carcass in the woods just after Christmas and ate the lot Shock. He's raw fed, never had cooked bones before. I phoned vet in a panic who said there was a risk of gut perforation from splintered cooked bones and i should bring him in if he started vomiting or pooing blood, but nothing to be done in the meantime, just had to wait and see.
He was fine, just had lots of dry crumbly poos over the following few days.
