We got our gorgeous new puppy on monday[bichon frise]

He is adorable...we are doing well with toilet training [thanks to this topic]i take him out on waking after meals after play on way back from school etc...but yesterday and this morning it has been vile weather[we are on a scottish island known for wind] raining and windy....and he hates it.I stayed out with him 15 minutes yesterday and he was really really crying and shaking but I knew he needed a poo[caught him just about too.. but when i took him out he stoppedSad

he was soo stressed out he was shaking and just went to sleep...

the weather calmed down and then we went out at 11,1.30 and 4 [3wees and 1 poo]

so this morning weather rubbish again ..but take him out..he does a wee ..but then nothing so we come in....and he promptly goes into squat position ..so i pick him up again ..and we go through exactly the same as last nightSad...no poo...poor stressed puppy who i dried off and cuddled and put in his bed covered in his blanket an he still there an hour later....

i know this is long ...but am i being cruel..i really want to get this right..

You are not being cruel. You are teaching your puppy. Am about to post my own qu re toilet training a puppy - maybe you can give me advice!

Mine hated the rain too - I just persevered, mostly because there's no real alternative, and...I'm in Scotland too, rain is going to feature heavily in his life, lol.

It got much easier when he figured out what he was actually there for because then he could just go and come back in quickly.

I have no helpful advice but I have three friends with Bichons who all say that they hate the rain and refuse to go out in it - not sure how they got through the poo training.

Get him a waterproof dog coat, my staff is the biggest wuss ever when it comes to the weather, as a puppy she would stand shivering pathetically in the rain for 15 mins, come back inside and wee within a foot of the door. Drove me nuts until I worked out she needed a jacket. She will still hold it 12 hours in bad weather now and she's 2!

Lol! I was going to ask the same question!!

I have a 15 week old labernese (he is completely gorgeous by the way) but a total wuss about the cold weather. We had such a lovely couple of days out with the sun this week, but today it rained and he was back to shivering on the door step and staring at me like I was the worlds meanest person.

He literally has to be dragged out the house on a cold day, despite having long hair and supposedly being descended from a breed that lived happily and worked happily in the swiss mountains Hmm
