Stop insulting my dog....and therefore me!

(59 Posts)

I own a chihuahua. He is lovely. He is clever, well behaved, affectionate, and ok....quite small. This does not mean he is a rat, something a proper dog would eat for breakfast, something that would be nice in a sandwich, or any of the other hilarious comments that we have heard in the last few days.
He's part of our family, so leave him alone!

I think pugs are adorable. Yes, they have a certain oddness about them, but it's a cute oddness. For me comparing a pug to a chi is like comparing Yoda or ET (ugly but cute) to Gollum (just ugly).

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and never more so that with a dog.

Fell, why are you awake?

We seem to be the main posters tonight smile

I live in the middle east so I am three hours ahead of you and I wake up at 5.30am. Twenty bleary eyed minutes of MN is my way of preparing for my day. grin

I feel a bit bad dissing people's dogs now. It's just that the only Chi I have ever met has been a right horrible bug-eyed bastard. grin I could forgive the bug-eyed thing if he was a nice dog though. I'm sure he's perfectly lovable when you get to know him, he's just horrible from where I'm standing.

I have a dog who can be a bit of an uppity moo though. She's not always easy to love from a strangers POV because she gets nervy around very bouncy 'in your face' dogs and will growl and bare her teeth if they are pushing their luck. She is absolutely fine if she's just left alone though - she doesn't start rucks. And she looks/sounds terrifying if you are a window cleaner or a postman. But she's my eyes she a gentle, perfect, docile baby I am saying that as she trying to savage the gardener through a closed patio door right now.

in my eyes, sorry.

Monkeyface, you have 3? You have my utmost respect. My 2 are a handful and then some. I've decided the optimum number of pugs to own in 1.5...confused

There's no way in the world I'd let my puppy play with a chi and it's got nothing to do with what I do or don't assume their personalities to be like.

At 6 months he's 30kg - he has no manners with other dogs yet and what he wants to do is stick his great big paws on them, followed by the rest of him.

I'm not willing to be responsible for any pain he might cause them while he squashes them.

Fellatio does that mean I shouldn't let either of my dogs play with off the lead staffies because they are all obviously agressive? sarcasm

If people have doubt then they should ask, not just call their dogs away and quickly walk off.

Fellatio, I am in qatar and know what you mean about the time difference. Ditto we always miss the late night drunken bunfights because we go to bed so early, they are deleted and forgotten by the time we wake up!

I know! It's a real pisser!

ruled no, you can do as you like with your dog, and I'll do as I like with mine. I do tense when I see certain breeds of dog approaching, (including staffs) but I look at the owner and read the body language of the dog as best I can before I make my decision about whether to walk in the opposite direction or not. But them I rarely walk in places where this kind of thing is a problem.
