My darling Springer spaniel died today. She was 14 and we knew she didn't have long, yesterday she had her usual half hour walk, snaffled some left over turkey then this morning I let her out at 5.00am and went to work, DH came down at 5.30 and thought she was sleeping, tried to wake her for a walk but she had died. Sad

So sad but glad that she died peacefully and painlessly on her own hearth rug. A moment I've been dreading, there is an empty space in all our life's today, hopefully she is catching all those rabbits which eluded her in life.

She was always there for us with a permanently waggy tail, tears have been shed today even by the teenaged boys and big strong DH. We all loved her and she was always there for us.
When I got the call to say my Dad had died I was on my own with her, she just laid her head on my lap and soaked up my tears. You can ask no more of a faithful friend.

God I'm so sorry Life that's awful.

But as you say she died peacefully and happy at home. That is so much nicer than that last trip to the vets. She was surrounded by her family in her home in her favourite comfortable place. When my old boy goes I really hope that's how he does it.

So sorry for you.

Thank you all, she was a wonderful dog, gentle and loving. I can't believe there will be no more wet nose pushed into my hand and my greedy kitchen shadow has gone. I don't need to look behind me when I step back.

I am so sorry for you Ingles We thought we would have to have our girl PTS but she beat us to it. She died on her own terms and I am so grateful her passing was peaceful and gentle, just like her.

Thinking of you... We are counting down our time left with my lovely lovely old lab and know how special every week is. How fab that it was peaceful and at home, not that last trip to the vet xx

She spent her last night so close to the fire she nearly set fire to herself just as she always did, the DS's didn't go to bed until just before I got up at 4.30 so she wasn't alone at all in her last hours, so glad that her passing was gentle, just like her.
But I want her back , to walk in the rain, with a dog that loved bad weather, in rain she was in her element and snow turned her into a puppy again. I know that I am being selfish but can't help it today.

Thanks for all your kind comments, I feel self indulgent, so many people have worse things to endure.

So sorry for your loss. My elderly springer is getting hugged tonight.

I've never met a more food obsessed, easy to please breed. And one so tied to his humans.

Sending you love {{{{hugs}}}}
