The Devil Dog discovered he could swim today.

Since his behaviour has been impeccable lately and his recall has improved ten fold I decided to give him a bit of extra freedom on his walk around the country park today by putting his halti leash on the longest it will go, occasionally letting it trail along the ground behind him.

He used this new found freedom to investigate a muddy puddle he has been interested in for sometime and quickly bounded in head first.

He appeared quite shocked to find that his puddle was not a puddle at all, but a rather deep pond Grin, luckily he soon learnt that he could swim (very luckily because I was not gonna go in after him Wink). After recovering from this shock he dived back in for a longer swim. Whippy gave him a look of utter disgust when he got out shaking muddy water all over her.

That's fantastic, isn't it? It's really good exercise? I'd love our border to swim - get rid of some excess energy!

Well, partly cream. Mainly paw printed. Leather and thus wipe clean fortunately.

Ddog1 is a brown lab - aka mud coloured, so you can't see when she is muddy - until she brushes up against a wall, that is!

My dog is also mud coloured, except once a month when he gets bath. He's white on that day Grin

He gets bathed on an evening. He stays white for a whole evening. We take pictures so we can remember what colour he is the rest of the month Grin

Yay, Devil Dog! I bet you'll notice further improvements in his behaviour if he does that often; it really tires them out.

I love watching them swim. Our 5 month old Springer pup has just discovered the joys of swimming and does flying leaps into the creek near us. She then runs around on the beach like a crazy dog, barking with excitement. So much fun. Westie will reluctantly stick a toe or two in unless it's really hot and then she walks in up to her tummy (and then her fur turns pink because we have very clay-heavy soil around these parts). The park where I take them is also a campground so there's a "comfort station" that has a hose-down area so I can wash off the worst of the mud before putting them back in the car, Thank Goodness.
