Three dogs: two dogs and bitch or two bitches and dog?

Thoughts? Does breed make any difference?

I've had both. I own a bitch and a dog. I foster, sometimes bitches sometimes dogs. It makes no difference at all. It all depends upon the personalities of the dogs. Playful, lively dogs get on well with my dog, laid back dogs get on well with my bitch.

I would not dream of going from 0 dogs to 3 dogs in one step.

No it's ok, I have two already. :) Been offered a third (rescue).

It's a smaller (very small) breed than mine, I have a very dominant male and a nervy female, but she's quite adaptable (adores my toddler DS after we thought she'd hate him - don't suppose this counts though Grin). Not worried about the male at all but he's not my toddler's biggest fan either...

Probably a bad idea but I don't know. Would love a third and we are in a good position financially/time/space-wise. Also want another DC but not having any joy TTC. Possibly the wrong time. Reeeeally want it not to be... :)

We have three, two boys and a girl. I so much prefer two. The dynamics changes with three dogs, IMO, and it becomes more pack like, rather than two individual dogs.

Plus it is very hard to go anywhere with three dogs. Most holiday homes and cafes (at least where we are in France) are ok with two dogs. But three is a stretch.

I love our three. They get along fine. But if I had a choice, I would have only have two.

Thanks Flat, yes I have heard people talk about the pack thing before. If I'm being totally honest I think it would unsettle the dogs too much. Male dog still hasn't accepted DS fully, it wouldn't really be fair on him to introduce another dog, although I keep making arguments that he would like the 'distraction', he has such fun with other dogs (small ones like the prospective dog - just seems to love them!) when we're out. It's a shame as this other dog (male) is very cute but that's ridiculous really and I'm trying to justify craziness... I think I have to be sensible here!
