house training a 6 month old pup!

A friend has taken on a 6 month old pup who has never been house trained - she is at her wits end trying to train her and was wondering if it is possible to get someone to house train the dog for her? Does anyone have any experience of this (or any other suggestions!) All normal advice has been given to her but despite all efforts the dog refuses to 'go' outside and performs as soon as she is bought inside. Any advice gratefully received.

I am quite new to this dog owning lark, but I would imagine if the dog has always done it indoors then that is kind of how it's been 'trained' he thinks he's doing it right - so needs to be re-trained.

The ever decreasing patch of newspaper (then transferring the newspaper outside) worked well for our pup and he got it within a few days and once the paper disappeared from outside he's been going on the grass ever since.

We did have a relapse when with the only one room carpeted downstairs and found that if our pup was going to do it indoors anywhere - he would go to that carpeted room to do it! I think he thought - well this feels the nearest to grass in this place so i'll go here. We got a citronella mix sprayed in the threshold to that room and he stopped going in it at all.

Flynn was a bit younger when we had him, 4 months old and was only used to paper.

Following advice from here I had no paper in the house so not to confuse him and just took him out at regular intervals, lots of praise and treats when he did start going and now one month on he only has the very occasional wee accident. Which to be fair to him, is down to me missing a cue.
