K-9 Angels - rescuing dogs from the Thai meat trade

This may have been done before but it's new to me so thought I'd share. K-9 Angels (check them out on facebook and their website) rescue dogs from various countries - dogs that roam around, getting poisoned, hit by cars and most recently, hundreds of dogs rescued from cramped chicken cages on their way to be killed for the Thai meat industry.

My dog daycare lady volunteers for them in this country and is just getting her third rescue dog from them, which is how I became aware of them. Please look at their facebook page - the pictures on there are absolutely harrowing, I honestly never realised this happened around the world Sad. If anyone is thinking about getting a rescue dog, please take a look at what these people do, it's awesome k-9

I'm always glad when there is a rescue taking in dogs that need help, but I think the thread title is misleading since it sounds like people eat dogs in Thailand, which they don't, or that this is a regular trade, when it is a bunch of crooks. Thai authorities siezed lots of dogs that were being shipped to Laos and then presumably on to Vietnam or China. Many of the dogs were soi [street] dogs that had been rounded up, but a lot of them were people's family pets that had been stolen. Thai TV did a documentary about it, which you can watch on the internet (but you'd need to speak Thai to understand it). It horrified people in Thailand.

There's more background information from the BBC here if anyone wants it. It is horrific - imagine if your pet was stolen and it was to be sent to another country for food. Even for the street dogs, although some are not taken care of, some are like communal pets that are fed by everyone on the street - people would notice them missing.

Kitsmummy, I just wanted to fill in the background. It's great that your dog daycare lady is taking one of these dogs. It was a huge amount of dogs to be taken in in a short space of time, and no wonder if people there struggled with the influx.

Very commendable.

But what about the 1000s of dogs in the UK waiting for homes.
These dogs which are brought to the UK, they would need quarentined wouldn't they?

It all seems misguided.
By all means help to control the stray population with neutering, medication and humane PTS where the animal is injured.

But I think everyone should take a step back and have a good look at ourselves.
Is the UK proud of it's own record with animal neglect/abuse? no

Are our abbatoirs anything to be boasting about? no

If someone wants to financially support the work they do, fair enough.
