So my DH has just taken our 8 yr old Cavalier KC to the vets. I don't think this time she's coming home.

Took her for a booster 4 months ago...completely out of the blue they found several tumours. shes been getting very slow over past week. Can't do her business (since Sat) and starting to look very uncomfortable. The vet warned us that this is what would happen so we've had a bit of time to prepare, in so much as you can really.

Feel so sad. Daisy has been with us since she was 12 weeks old. She was the timid one in her litter (she got bullied by her siblings!).

Felt like I was OK earlier and had time to process this but can't stop crying.

Sorry if this upsets. had to post somewhere and this seemed to be where people would understand how much our pets mean to us.

will let you know what happens

Sad My Mum has a wee Cav KC - love of her life! Wee thing has something wrong with her heart and her spine, so is dosed up on painkillers and heart meds, but is still having a pretty good standard of life. So Sad to think that one day my Mum will have to say goodbye to her. good luck x

Oh, I'm so sorry OP. I can only imagine what you must be going through. I read a quote once that said dogs may not be our whole lives, but they make our lives whole. There's not much anyone can say I suppose - but I'm sure Daisy has had a wonderful life with you and will be spared any pain. I posted this on another thread before, but it's a lovely though so will post it for you again here -warning: makes me weep each time I read it - ((big hug))

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.

Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I completely understand. We lost our beautiful girl very recently. Yes, it is heartbreaking as they bring so much love with them, and even though we have two much loved other dogs, the house is very much quieter and emptier without her. Sad

All I can say is that going peacefully, with the people she loves and trusts, with a caring vet, is a kind end for a very special and loved friend. Cancer is a bugger.

Please give yourself all the time and space you need to mourn her - there will be lots of people on here who understand what you are going through.

So sorry Sad

Cry as much as you need to.

I've just been through the same myself, so I know exactly how you feel.

Thank you for all your kind words and messages.

I was right...there was nothing they could do so Daisy passed away peacefully. Vet was very sensitive and kind.

We have another Cav who has been her companion for 7 years. DH has just taken him out for a walk (and a cry I think).

thankyou again.

Sad

so sorry OP.

I think any pet owner knows how horrible this is, it's heartbreaking.

Big hugs to you and don't think (or let anybody say) "it's just a pet", they are part of our family and a massive part of our lives. Let yourself grieve but always remember the life you gave her and the love you all had.

So sorry OP. Many of us have been there with our own dogs and understand how hard it can be.

I'm sure she would have been grateful from the release from pain. It doesn't help the dog-shaped hole in your life, but it does get easier.

So sorry for your loss :( Take comfort in the fact that you gave her a good life and allowed her to die with dignity, its the hardest thing we have to do for our pets, but the kindest.
