Another Kennel Club Q- why register?

OH bought a pair of pedigree pups, certified by the Kennel Club of Chile. Having never owned pedigrees before, and no interest in showing, is there any reason to register ownership with the Kennel Club?

Please excuse my ignorance, but until last week I'd never even thought about it.

I think we need a few more details.

How come the dogs are certified by the Kennel Club of Chile? Where did they come from? Are you not in the UK?

Sorry , we live in Chile, they are Chilean born and according the documents I have so are the parents.

We don't plan to show them, or breed, they are simply pets so I really don't know if I need to register for any reason. OH bought them because of their cuteness rather than pedigree.

Well no, there is no need to register.

KC registration is useful for building a breed - not necessarily from you breeding, but perhaps to observe the development of litter siblings and therefore a genetic line.

As family pets, there is no NEED, but it sounds as though they're already registered and you'd be registering a change of ownership.

It might be worth looking at the CKC website and see what legal status that implies. The Kennel Club Ownership registration here carries very little legal weight, but I don't know if the same applies in Chile.
