The doghouse

Ddog2 has gone mental

I had a thread a few weeks ago about changing the Dogs food. We were feeding raw but it's such a faff (not in the UK) so we decided it would be better to try and find a good quality dry food.

The best we could find here was James Welbeloved. We've gradually changed over the last couple of weeks and we've really noticed a different in Ddog2's behaviour.

She is mental! She is constantly running around the house, literally bouncing off the furniture. She's started mouthing hands to attempt to get us to play. She is ignoring all commands. She is crying at night again. She is pooing like there is no tomorrow - about 5 a day! I'm sure its directly linked to changing her food.

It's got to the point that she has to be shut in her bed during the day sometimes because she is just too much. If DD2 (2.9) is playing she will take her toys, eat her crayons, rip her books, knock her over whilst tearing around the room.

She is getting 2 hours of exercise per day still and whilst DH is away at the moment I cant really manage more than that.

The other night I decided I would ignore her attempts to play (mouthing my hands and feet, tearing around the room) and she sat dead in front of me staring. I glanced at her and she pounced on top of me while I was sat on the sofa. She isnt a small dog and she really hurt me.

What can I do!?

wel if you think it's the food why don't you just change her back?

We cant change back to raw. We really struggled when we moved over here to find anything more than chicken wings and thighs, didnt seem enough and was vair expensive.

Dont know whether to go right back to puppy basics with her but she is so teenagery she just does as she pleases at the moment.

You deffo can't keep her on the JWB - she sounds like the stereotype of the human kid with additive induced adhd.

Chicken and rice as an emergency measure for a few days till the poo situation resolves itself. See if it calms her.

Can you get chappy where you are? Vets seem to like chappy for sensitive tummies as the JWB sounds far too rich for her system.

I don't know where you are but amazon oddly enough delivers dog foods in a lot of countries.

Can you post the ingredients list to the JWB so we can see if we can identify potential dietry culprits?

I know, I know. She cant stay on it. You're right that its like adhd.

I'll go look at the ingredients now.

We thought about ordering online but kind of wanted to pick something that was available locally iykwim.

Do you know what the % of protein content is? Odd that it contains Sugar beet too..

I use Burns dog food which is 18%, we have never been able to go above that..

Protein is 22% which did worry me when we got it but I thought that maybe because she does get a lot of exercise it might not be a problem.

Obviously I was wrong Grin

Will look into changing again. I did find a website that delivers over here and they had Natures Diet which both Ddogs did really well on but DH wanted a dry food so the poos are easier to pick up.

Do you have Orijen or Acana in the UK. Can vouch for both.
