Hi all,

A friends cavalier king Charles had all his teeth out and now his tongue permanently hangs out of his mouth. We are worried as thought it may improve and worried about it drying out ..... Anyone had similar experience??

I've heard that this is common with dogs who have had their teeth removed and isn't a problem but has your friend asked the vet?

Yes. I have seen this a lot I. Elderly toothless dogs, especially Yorkies for some reason!!!

I do t think it caused any problems as long as they are taking the tongue back in now and again! But ask the vet, although not sure there is a solution, unless they get the dog a set of dentures!

If the front incisors are missing but the canines in place there is a gap and the tongue slides forwards, especially when sleeping or daydreaming! If all teeth are missing the gums meet easier and there isn't such a gap, but then some dogs hang it out of the side. I think it's quite endearing :)
