The doghouse

Has anyone built in under the stairs to make a dog crate?

We have two Staffies, both have crates although they prefer to share the bigger crate.

We have been thinking of somehow building in under the stairs, so that it becomes a huge crate, with two beds in it, so that they have more room 9and DH then wouldnt dump everything he comes through the door with on top of the crates.)

Any ideas how I would go about doing this?

We got a carpenter to change our under stairs to make a dog den. How can I post a pic on here?

I love that, although we do want something with a door of some sort, but a 'open door' something we could see through, but stop the pups getting out of at times.

I got the idea from Houzz.com. Have a look, it's full of glam American houses but brilliant for ideas.

There are companies that make crates to order - try Dog Pods or similar, give them your dimensions and they ought to be able to make one to fit the space exactly. :)

We've done this. We built a false bottom to our under the stairs cupboard, so we can still keep the vacuum and all the other clutter in there. The dogs live underneath. It's quite big and goes along way back. My spaniel won't get in with my collie so he still sleep under the table which is a bit annoying. Our last 2 dogs both slept in there together.
It has two metal gates across the front which bolt shut. We hardly ever use these now, they were to stop my youngest from crawling into the dog bed but he is 10 now!

I would take a picture but it is VERY scruffy compared to AL0uise's rather chic alternative!

Alouise that is great! I'd deck mine out as a "cwtch" for the kids though as my dogs are hairy, smelly buggers. Tempted to show DH that photo and see what he can do!

Where did you get the drawers from? Did you make them or are they from a set?

I think that the carpenter used carcasses from Magnet and put wooden fronts on with handles from Jim Lawrence
