Any advice to help my very poorly dog?

My lovely little dog, a cross of every dog you could think of all squashed into something the size of a small corgi, has been suddenly taken very ill.

After several visits to the vets to get to the bottom of it, he was admitted today where the vet drained 250 mls of fluid from his chest!
He has some fluid still around his heart and the heart is enlarged, and his blood tests showed high white blood cells, low platelets, and his potassium and sodium levels are all over the place.

Possibly he has a tumour, the fluid drained was pink which the vet said was a bad colour, but we won't know as the lab is closed until after the bank holiday.

He's just come home, breathing easier but still very groggy.

Has anyone any experience of this? I was wondering if there's any diet I could give him to help boost his immune system etc?
He will be taking diuretics, anti inflammatories and antibiotics to try and treat the symptoms.

Sorry your beloved little pooch is so poorly .. he must feel a heck of a lot better though for having that fluid drained off, that s a fair whack for a small dog.

Did vet say where the infection might be ?

I havent had any experience of this cluster of symptoms sorry ( only two serious illness my dogs have had are diabetes and pancreatitis) but just wanted to give (((hugs))) if you would like any ...... and wishes that the medications make him comfortable.

Fingers crossed the lab results indicate something treatable.

My dog had a general malaise - bit restless, fell over a bit, off his food.
He had blood tests done ane there was a sky high white blood cell count and anaemia which indicated leulaemia. He is now on steroids and chemotherapy and content, but not not very energetic. His prognosis is not good, but he will be 11 this year so he is just about reaching the point where you can say "reasonable innings" I hope your diagnosis is happier, MrsLovely, but there is quite a lot they can do even if there is some malignancy.

My boy is only 8, it seems so unfair.

He's not much better today, his breathing doesn't seem hugely better, although he has eaten a little.

I don't know if we're expecting miracles but I was really hoping he would be showing more signs of improvement by today. Will ring the vet tomorrow for a chat if he doesn't pick up any more.
