I'd say classes for starters unless you know of a really good recommended 121 trainer in your area. I have wasted a small fortune on so called experts, one of whom charged me 90 quid (yes 90!) for a 20 min consultation.

I'd say a one to one session with a good trainer. Roughly where are you in the country? I know a good few really good lab trainers Grin.

Will watch this carefully as we are having the same problem with our Lab!

We are also thinking of 1:1 rather than the classes.

1:1 has worked well for us.

Training classes gets my vote.

Have been taking my 9 month old pup since we got him at 16 weeks- its a fab fab class, held outdoors (even in mega deep snow!) and I've learnt so much. Really, they say it's all about training you to train, rather than just training your dog. Have now moved up to the next class and it's such a help to see what others are doing with their dogs, it can highlight things for you that you wouldn't see if you were doing it with your dog?! Iyswim!!

noinspiration £90 crikey for 20 mins !!!

Mishymashy its a nightmare making decisions like this because we don't want to ruin the poor dog doing the wrong thing

Inthepotty good thinking bat man

I think i'm going to try classes and if that doesn't work then 121

daisydotandgertie Do you know any in the east ?

We went to see a sheepdog trainer in North Norfolk who sorted out the Leggit and Runne dog in one session. Along with that was the issue of tugging on the lead. She charges £40/hour. Frankly the runaway dog is a different creature now, and very much part of the family because of her. You may find a gundog trainer helpful.

There are quite a few behaviourists who run classes and often the best combination is to have a single one to one to kick start you with the skills you need to apply in class. This could be a good solution for you.

EasyToEatTiger - what turned out to be the solution to legging it and pulling?
