I'm really really sorry to hear that Melly. It is so painful isn't it? I hope you have some support at such a difficult time.

It is so painful, that is true. We are all rather heartbroken but the DDs are ok today (4 and 7). I am just missing his beautiful wirey face (fox terrier). He had spinal probs and other things but was pottering about on Sunday but something happened in the evening, he made an odd sound and really didn't look ok.Straight to out of hours vet who was not sure what had happened but when we took him back in yesterday they found a mass on his liver, probably bleeding internally and said it would be days at most,so we had him pts. I didn't think I would have any tears left today as I cried so much yesterday.

Oh Helly. 14 - that is a fabulous age. Having a little weep for you and yours. It is so painful, I know, but what a great life he had with you. I am sure noone could have loved him more.

Animals eh! They break your heart.

Helly what a great age. My GSD is nearly 11 and deteriorating daily. The last few weeks he has pooed in the kitchen because he just can't get to the door. He is so arthritic, yet happy, eating and wagging his tail. Goes for walks. I know the time is coming but I just can't come to terms with it. I dread the day I'll have to let him go. I just know we're not quite there yet. I don't know when though. Big dog hairy hugs to you xx

I once met a tiny terrier in Soho, it was her 21st birthday- i nearly kissed her owner I was so happy for them both. She did look very very old, but still, 21! I knew mellydog wouldn't make 21 but i hoped to make the 14th birthday at the beginning of June. Dh is wandering about, he would normally be taking him out for a last wee about now.

sarahjessica- my doggie had been having accupuncture for his spinal degeneration and he did noticably perk up after his sessions. Definitely helped with his mobility, he was holding his tail better etc.
jasper-I am sorry about your dog. They are so enmeshed into our lives it leaves a huge hole when they go.

We have a new, much loved dog now and we're all mad about him.

But sometimes, late at night, I close my eyes and sniff his head and pretend for just a second it's my old girl Sad

thanks losty. Girls put flowers in with him and wrote him a letter in a bottle telling him we would always love him and think of him, they put little special things in the bottle ,tried to put pocket money in too but it wouldn't go. He's buried by the hedge in the sun. Sad

Thank you for replying to me Helly. I am looking at options for F Dog. But so far the vets have offered hydro therapy. His coat is so thick it weighs him down and makes him worse, let alone how cold it makes him. He has no pain killers as the vet thinks it will give him a dodgy tum so I'm pushing for a steriod injection atm. Accupunture might be a big help. Thank you. I do have baby boy GSD. But much as I love him he's not FDog :(

By the hedge in the sun. How lovely.

We couldn't bury our dog in the garden, sadly.

Part of the village now [happy/sad smile]. Your girls are so fab. They wiggle into such a big part of our hearts don't they, these funny four legged boys, I've just had a big hot tear for him, can't imagine how sad you must feel, lots of love from us all.

Sarahjess- mine was on a daily painkiller with no tummy problems. Just a little dose helped keep him mobile and comfortable.
My dds were very upset yesterday. I think it was a big shock to them, particularly my older dd ,but they were ok today. Very loving of each other though today, far less bickering, more clingy of each other. Dd was irrationally angry with the vet for putting him to sleep and we've had to go over it a few times.

:( so sorry for your loss.

Could you let the girls make a mini scrapbook with photos and the things they loved about him?

I did this with 2 girls when I was a nanny and it went down well. They were really proud of their books and we told them if they felt sad to have a look and remember something fun. The books hardly left their sides at first but gradually they started remembering him fondly instead of sadly.

So sorry about sad news, he sounds a real sweetie and no matter how ;you try to prepare yourself it is always devastating. I'm another one with an elderly poorly dog (Porridge, Leukemia) P. Is doing OK on his chemotherapy at the moment but we know he won't be with us long term.
