House training 1yr old puppy

Hi, I have this puppy, have had him for a year, managed to master the house training in regards to number 2s but the dog still urinates in the house. I put puppy mats down for him and he was urinating against the leg of the table so I have placed his water bowl in that location. He now urinates on puppy mats, how on earth do I get him to urinate outside the house?!

Firstly clean everywhere he has been with biological washing powder dissolved in water. That gets rid of his scent mark, disinfectant doesn't.

Then, back to basics on the training - take him out every time he could possibly need to go, and praise him when he does. Usual drill. If you can teach him a command word, all the better. A sharp NO if you catch him in the act in the house will help. Take him straight out afterwards to go outside, and praise him when he does. You're going to have to really watch him, and treat him like a tiny puppy for a while.

Breaking a habit is a bit of work, but quite possible. Most dogs are naturally quite clean, so it sounds like he is scent marking rather than relieving himself. Is he castrated? That might help.

Get rid of the puppy mats. Puppy mats tend to confuse dogs more than they help. They have a smell that encourages dogs to wee but this smell (to the dog) is inside so dog wees inside.

Get rid of the puppy mats reward wees outside, ignore wees inside although I would work very hard at making sure there are no indoor wees by watching and taking the dog out every hour or so.

Agree re the cleaning indoors using specialist cleaner or biological washing powder to remove any wee smell. Other cleaners smell nice to use but actually make the dogs scent stronger to a dog and encourage more weeing.
