We collected Jasper (6 month old cocker/springer cross) from the boarder yesterday. He has spent the last 5 days tearing around a farm with five labradors and, unexpectedly, a very dainty chihuahua. He seems quite pissed off to be home, tbh. The boarder said h spent the whole time on the move, and he started to lose weight so she upped his rations. It's true, I can now see his ribs. He's also spent most of today sleeping. Anyway, I took him for a walk this morning, and the little bugger refused to recall. He's always been brilliant with his recall, but today he headed for the hills. Ihad to go tearing across the field after him as he accosted a chap walking his dogs. Luckily, he saw the funny side and no harm done. But once I had him again we marched straight to the pet shop and I bought an extendable lead. I've never 'raised' a dog before, but I'm guessing this is adolescence? So should I keep him on the 5m long lead for a while and just keep up with the recall/treat training?
