we cant have any more dogs.

i lost one last year, cavalier king charles, the sweetest dog ever, to heart disease.

my remaining cav seems not right - she will be going to vet when they reopen. she had a heart murmur but now she seems to be coughing a bit and her heart keeps racing. i know its heart failure. its exactly what my other little cav did.

and im so so so sad. i dont know how i will cope with no dogs. she is my constant companion and i love her so much, but i know she has missed our other boy since we lost him.

DH is right though, and with the hours we both work now its no use getting another pup, and its just too much when they go. i will never be able to do this again, it was bad enough last year and i still had her....no idea how i will cope when the house is quiet.

she is 7. we lost my boy at 8. they are not a long lived breed, and i know that, but i hate the thought of losing her.

will do.

she seems fine, but i recognise the signs now, seeing as my boy went the same way.

she had a terrible trauma the other week, am wondering if that has caused something. she was attacked by another dog in the park.

im going to take her tomorrow.

Is she on any heart medication currently? My friend's CKCS was diagnosed with the worst grade of heart murmur at aged 8 and given a few months to live. However, with medication he made it to 15 and lived a very full and active life to the end.

I really hope the situation is not as bad as you fear.

she isnt at the moment, but she has just got the beginnings of the same symptoms as my boy had, i think they will probably put her on the meds.

My boy was only on them for a month before he died, but he was a bit older and i didnt recognise the symptoms straight away.

ill take her tomorrow, get her checked out.

Sad for you Vicar, but here's hoping the vet can give you some positive news.

thank you. ill let you know what the vet says, but ive been reading up on cavs and i now realise most are taken by heart disease or defects.

she has just come and given me the biggest cuddle.

i think she knows she isnt quite right. at least i am on the ball this time.
but i just dread dread dread losing her. im not sure i can live without a woof. i know that sounds bloody stupid, but i love my girl and the thought of being without her makes me cry, and it hasnt even happened yet.

Oh poor you, you don't need to pull yourself together, she's part of your family and of course you're upset that she's ill.

Hope the vet can do some good

How did she get on at the vets Vicar?

we are there at 4.40. ill let you know what they say, typically, she is fine today. no panting, no heart racing, no coughing.
she is fast asleep next to me.

but she is there for her routine imms anyway so i will ask them to just check her over and listen to her heart (which they always do anyway)

good news! she has a heart murmur but its no worse. just got to keep an eye on her for symptoms.

she just maybe ate too much xmas dinner the other day - she was panting terribly, maybe she was just too hot and full.

anyway - she is ok, and i am relieved! i hate the thought of losing her.
