Fiona Phillips and Dr Miriam Stoppard present a series following six first-time mums-to-be and their partners as they enter the last stages of their pregnancy. As a midwife I have received guidance from the NMC(Nursing and Midwifery Council) to discourage any woman who asks whether to participate in it.

The NMC consider that based on the evidence available of the various

negative effects of stressful situations on pregnant women, this type of
programme is not in the best interests of pregnant women or their babies'
physical or psychological health.

So mears is it a programme to avoid watching as well?

If so I am sorry to have put the alert up

What on earth is the point of a show like this?

Report
RTKangaMummy · 04/07/2005 11:59

So I am being very dim here

but is the problem the advice is going to be inaccurate?

Or is it like house of tiny tearaways for pregnancy

I thought it was going to give tips on what is useful top buy ie, which cots, changing bags, tips like that

I think the problem is that putting pregnant women together in a house, on national TV, in the run up to delivery will induce high levels of stress which is best avoided during pregnancy.

Tip like that could be done with women living in their own homes. This will be like Big Brother.

God - i hated this programme - thought it was really bland and wishy washy. I am currently 1 week overdue - and tbh the last place i would want to be is in there!!!!!
Dr Mirriam Stoppard REALLY REALLY got on my nerves !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have met her in real life.... major face lift!

Caught this, it was awful. And Miriam Stoppard said 'No' to dying your hair when pregnant.

Tinker · 04/07/2005 20:01

Thought so Pupuce. Very tight looking

The hair dye advice REALLY annoyed me - why couldnt they suggest alternatives - like foils for example - where the dye doesnt actually touch the scalp. Saying that my hairdresser (also pg) has researched this thorougly and is reccommending that there is NO evidence to say that the dye is unsafe.
What about that pg woman with her bump out on display who holds it constantly?!?!?!?

Tinker · 04/07/2005 20:05

I thought it was ok TB hence why annoyed that MS gave a blanket No to it.

i wasn't very impressed. i rolled my eyes when miriam stoppard smugly said "oh and when you have morning sickness, you eat little and often". yeah, that REALLY helped, i was throwing up no matter what i did or how i ate.
