MUZZY LANGUAGE COURSE FOR KIDS. ANY GOOD?

I see that lately the BBC have been pushing the Muzzy language course. It is extremely expensive. My DS been watching it since 18months and still asks for it to be played. HOWEVER dont be fooled into thinking your child begins to speak french in days, this is not the case. My DS does speak french, but he has had two french lessons a week since he was 2 yrs. (now 3.5yrs)We also spend a lot of time in France. I dont think I can attribute his success to this language course. In its favour I would say that it MAY of helped with his pronunciation.

Where have the BBC been pushing it, GA? I asked MN about Muzzy a year or so ago.

We've got the Spanish version - I do think it's very overpriced and would recommend people get it second hand off Ebay if they can. Ds1 quite likes it, but can't say he's learnt any Spanish off of it. He's learned far more of Dora the Explorer on the TV.

Found it very disappointing considering the cost.

Advertising it between kids programmes in the morning.

You can ring the BBC and they will put you through to the correct department.

A language will only be learnt if it is used. No point just hoping kids will 'pick up' French if they don't mix with French speakers, or spend a considerable amount of time in France.

I thought i'd learnt some words off Dora too and proudly used the word for computer with my class and they all burst out laughing, turns out it was a south american word. And the poor little boy who doesnt speak any English now thinks the English word for computer is computadora. Bloody Dora what have I done?
