Please can anyone help me without me having to watch it all the way through!

ive got a 4 year old and a 5 year old.

they both want to watch it and ive finally got hold of it and i dont know whether to risk letting them watch it incase they have nightmares for weeks!

are there any bad bits i should watch out for?

are there too lifelike skeletons etc?

no idea really but they want to watch it tonight and i havent got time to watch it all first.

anyone got it at home?

It is IMHO very scary for little ones.

I wouldn't show it to a 4/5 year old, and my kids are quite 'scareproof'

The computer animations of the skeletons are quite realistic

The skeletons are fairly lifelike. My DD didn't like the box...

Nope! Too scary my dd was 8 when she first saw it wouldn't let her go to the cinema when it came out.

No, I saw a few clips of it and that was enough for me to decide on avoiding showing my ds5 it.

Absolutely not
far too scary

thankyou for your responses.my five year old is obsessed wth jack sparrow but he's only seen pictures and toys of him, not the films.

alot of his classmates have seen it but he's only just five so maybe i'll wait a bit.

dont want anymore reasons for sleepless nights!

thanks

My 4 year old liked it and I assume the 2 year old also watched it. They must have a gruesome streak. We were having a pirate party though, so it was relevant. You obviously wouldn't let them watch it by themselves though!

Endorse what everyone's said already. My dd's 7 and she'd have nightmares forever!

My 4 and 6 yo loved it... watched it several times though the 1st 2 times WITH a grown up. They begged to see the number 2 but we felt it might be too scary so we have said no and at the moment they have forgotten all about it.
And I am usually one to have answered -- YES TOO YOUNG!!! but it was DH who watched it with them and they were fine!

I would have adamantly said no too but DS saw it at a friend's house and absolutely no fear .. he finds the skeletons funny

I actually think it would probably be scarier for an emotionally intelligent older child who understands the nuances than a 4 or 5 year old who just sees skeletons and pirates tbh

Mine love it!.... the only really scay bits are when the Pirates on the black pearl turn into skeletons, but my two take it in their stride (3 and 5) They love Dr Who too, which can be far scarier than Pirates of the Carribean!

pupuce · 13/10/2006 13:29

I agree with Twig... I was quite surprised at how unscared they were !

must point out though... my 3 year old is a fearless little boy... he finds it all very amusing....my dd is 5 and hides abit when they turn into skeletons

i might watch a bit of it wth them when i can and see what its like and see their reactions.i normally only let them watch a dvd when im busy doing other things though so i dont know when that will be.

my five year old knows that people die and their bones are the skeletons and their feelings etc all go up to the sky so i dont know how he'll be with them.

he's seen one of the harry potters wth te flying car and it doesnt bother him.it worried me more than him but then he watched casper the ghost cartoons and didnt like it because it was scary!

i'll have to wait and see.i havent let him watch king kong either that he wants to watch as i dont like the tribal people on the island.i think itd scare him when they attack the other people and chop heads off etc.

Not for 4 and 5 yr-olds I would think. Having said that I banned ds1 (9) from seeing it, then didn't see it myself until this summer. It wasn't as "bad" as I expected, and I immediately allowed ds1 to watch it on DVD.

my ds is 6 and has had dreadful nightmares for a year since watching the first 20 mins - and this is a boy who likes pirates and skeletons.

ive now watched the film.

the skeleton parts on the ship and where they battle as skeletons isnt very suitable i dont think but the majority of it should be ok.

he's watching it now with me waiting in the wings to fast forward the parts i dont want him seeing.

he's not too bad with letting me do that as he gets to watch some of it.

thankyou for your comments

What rating is it? Call me old fashioned but I really think there are so many brilliant kids films around that I can't see why young children ever have to see films intended for older ones, teenagers and sdults. What are they going to watch when they are 11 and 12 if they watch this sort of thing at 4 and 5?

venusinfurs · 14/10/2006 08:19

at little ones watching it!
Three and four!! I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to do another one And 'I assume the two year old watched it' Spanna!!! again!

my son is watching it now but ive fast forwarded the bits with the skeletons and he's just watching the other bits.

i wish they'd do edited versions so that i didnt have to keep popping in.

he's happy with only watching bits of it.i know alot of children wouldnt be

I don't think so. My DD is now 5 and I wouldn't let her watch it (despite being asked). In fact we took DS to see it at the cinema when he was 8 - he was a bit scared.

The skeletons made me jump too

Hope this helps.

I agree with curlew - what will they watch when they are older if they have already watched these films.

But I suppose we all know our own children and monitor their viewing appropriately.

I would love to see Narnia but I know DS (5) isn't ready for it so we'll wait. Ditto Harry Potter. Although he has watched all the Star Wars movies and loved them! Is totally obsessed by anything Star Wars.

I am GOBSMACKED that you would even contemplate letting children this young watch films like that.

My dd's are still scared when they watch Sleeping Beauty.

dd1 begged to watch it (6) and then got bored
