Wondered what others thought. On the one hand, I don't think any section of society should be ghettoised because of their appearance, yet on the other I can't help wondering whether we shouldn't be doing more to help people live more healthily, take more exercise & eat better food than making huge loos & modifying cars for the very overweight.

Completely up to being flamed for my opinion, as I have never really given the subject much thought before.

Even the title sounds unappetising.

A very overweight man was campaigning on behalf of fat people saying that they are neglected. He got a very, very large lady to try & get in lots of cars where she in some cases couldn't get in at all & where she could, the car was undrivable because she couldn't wear the safety belt. So this chap was saying given that everyone is getting fatter, why aren't cars being made to accomodate this.
Why aren't rides at fun fairs big enough for fat people to get into?
Why aren't toilets bigger & stronger? (Apparently obese people break up to 3 toilets a year - not sure where figures come from)
Why don't clothing manufacturers make bigger clothes?
Why are fat people perceived as slobs?
etc etc etc

I saw most of this, was quite funny I thought, which it probably shouldn't have been as it was trying to address a serious issue.
Govmnt stats and all that, we're fatty lard arses but they're trying to get us thinner, healthier etc and warning us about the dangers of being overweight. So why Oh Why would the people that want us to be slimmer change everyday things to allow us to be larger?
I'm not overweight, it's taken a while to lose the baby weight and I really hated being called 'chunky' so just cannot understand how people can say they are happy when they are fat. But then I am just another victim of society telling me how we should look and what size we should be.
On the other hand I don't go around staring and slagging people off who are fat, they've as much right to be able to go anywhere as I have. I don't think it's right that public transport doesn't accommodate larger frames, as for car manufacturers, that's up to them isn't it? As for everything else there are always things that are 'super-sized' to be found on the net these days, so if bigger people need bigger loos etc it's not like they can't find them. But they can't expect local authorities and govmnt agencies to provide these things for them as they are trying to get us all slimmer and healthier - and before anyone jumps on me I'm not saying that all fat people are unhealthy and all thin people are healthy - we all know that's not the case.

I felt pretty much the same as you Pfer. I just kept thinking - but it is really unhealthy & life shortening to be seriously obese.
The chap seemed to be saying that a fat future is inevitable, so lets embrace it. I can't help feeling that we should fight hard to avoid a fat future (in the same way as a size zero future).

Hurray!!! I'm not alone!! I know Bugsy. I've no problem with fat people, but in general it's not all that healthy and it shouldn't be treated as though it's the way it's going to be and that's it. All this stuff that that idiot Jamie Oliver's up to in schools (much as I hate him) is about educating children and their parents about healthy eating etc so why should people think that it's ok to sit there and eat full english breakfast, that was more than I'd eat in a whole day btw, and then complain that the public loo isn't big enough to take their bulk? Surely it'd be healthier to downsize themselves a bit rather than supersizing everything else? I know, I know, I'm a fattist git, but really I'm not, honest!

Did he want a pie dispenser fitted in the car to quicken his journey to see St Peter at the pearly gates??? And what was the car to be called? Were they going to advertise it as the fat persons car???

I really really pity people who get like this and can't see that they are killing themselves and then expect a hand with it - and as for the fact toilets - PLEASE!!!

The only thing that I thought was quite sensibe was the fat coffins!!

GEE I am in a shitty mood today (DH's fault!!)

people just need to wake up and smell the coffee as far as I 'm concerned: if you are grossly overweight then you need to lose weight - what is complicated about that? if you have gotten very fat unless you have a thyroid problem or something it is probably your own or your parents fault ( if you are a youngster) so don't somehow expect the government to provide a solution.
Should have been called ' You're fat, go on a f*ing diet' !!!

My BIL went to the doc's recently with knee problems - they were always hurting - and Doc more or less said "What do you expect? You are morbidly obese and you're body is not built to cope with the extra weight". His problem? Copious amounts of alcohol, excess food and no exercise - but he can't help it apparently. DH's Gran thinks that BIL has got a chip on his shoulder about something - I think that's what he's been gnawing on all these years to get as big as he is!
