Did anyone see Ballet Changed My Life???

I recorded last Wednesday (it's a series of programmes) I have been choked watching disadvantaged/troubled kids learning Romeo and Juliet with Birmingham Royal Ballet. Some of their stories are staggering. Kids whose dads have no interest in them or self harm, in trouble with the police. Some have dropped out but others are getting a lot from it.

Once again a disciplined activity is working wonders.

I recommend you watch the rest of it.

so - I'm the only one watching?

well Jools what did you think of tonight's prog?

JT, thanks for asking - yes another good one. Apart from watching these kids struggle with their feelings of anger and the rest the programme is good from the ballet aspect also. Tonight we saw how the story is told through the ballet movements. They also did the casting tonight - 2 people for each role so its not over yet?

Yes I enjoyed that JT will you be watching next week?

You try and stop me Jools.

I watched it, I really enjoyed it and will be watching again next week. Its so heartwarming seeing these kids have something positive in their lives for once. Didn't see last week's but gutted by some of the kids' backgrounds.

I like the Director, he's ace.

I loved this, last week and this week, really inspiring and humbling, especially when you hear what the kids have been through.

I thought the whole thing was brilliant from start to finish, I hope it wins a BAFTA for factual programming or whatever category it might fall into. The kids were great, the teachers were amazing. It was such an ambitious project and it totally came off just through sheer hard work. I was all choked up watching it.

I watched too but missed this thread

Beetroot, missed the directors comment about his wife !!!! My Dh took one look at him and said ballet was for poofters (he's so enightened)

Brilliant programme - love teh story of the girl whose dad killed her mum - her poor sad life - you're just urging them to succeed and believe in themselves

It was a fantastic programme, I hope they do a follow up at some point to see what happened to them. The lad who was Tybalt was amazing as was Lady Capulet.

Really inspirational and wasn't it typical that all these "bad kids" needed was someone to believe in them and to give them something to strive for. It was so sad when that boy who did the breakdancing (Alex?) said that he wondered if his dad would be bothered even turning up but you could tell all he wanted was his dad to say he was proud of him. And he did!
