I'd love to! Is it showing in the UK?

Omg I love the outlander books. What channel is it on?

I'm not sure I want to watch it though - I have a very nice image of what Jamie should be on my head!!

It's on an American channel I've never heard of, Starz, under the name Outlander.
I'm quite happy with the casting (I love Tobias Menzies).

In terms of the books, I have a love-hate relationship.

Brilliant plot idea, well-executed and a great start to book 1.

Downsides for me:

  • I don't find Claire a very sympathetic character.
  • Most of the characters are annoying and poorly developed.
  • I don't like the continuous, gratuitous use of rape throughout the series.
  • The dialogue.
  • Every book after book 1.

They definitely lose their way after the first 3 books. I love Claires character though!

I wonder if they'll have it on netflix?

How do you get this starz channel? Is it on sky?

I don't know, I can't find anything saying it can be seen outside the US. I'd happily resurrect my subscription to netflix if it meant I could watch starz.

There's been a lot of hype around Outlander in the US, seems to be riding on the back of Game of Thrones genre success and I'm hoping that netflix will start promoting it soon! I might have to get the books out of the loft again.

I'd sign up to Netflix too if they had it!

Shoop, did you set up an account with CC details and all?

Report
Tinkleybison · 12/08/2014 08:58

Ooh I was hoping this was going to be picked up by a UK channel and I guess it will be, but just not yet. Is that a 'file sharing' website shoop?

I love the first two books, theyre my comfort read, but after that they become too drawn out and unwieldy, the writing isnt great, but its still a guilty pleasure. Would definitely watch.

Does anyone who has seen it think they have done a good job?

(I think they've done a good job).

Shoop would also be interested to know if you added cc details.

I can't find it online - the Starz website has it on but I can't seem to get it to play. Anyone else know how we can watch?

I'm in the US and loved the first episode. I am really looking forward to the second one tomorrow night.

I really hope you all get it in the UK. The productions values are outstanding; it's all British and Irish actors doing an outstanding job; it was filmed entirely in Scotland with a mostly British crew, and the Scottish settings are beautifully photographed. Surely some UK channel would want all that.

Starz announced today that there will be a second season. Smile

Excellent second episode so far. Glad to see they kept in Claire's supposed route between Oxfordshire and France. Via Scotland.

I've watched the first two episodes on youtube, can't wait for number 3 to appear - think they've done a pretty good job with it.

I found it's stayed with me far more than the books did even, do you know what I mean?

I admit I even started to feel some attraction towards Jamie. There I've said it.

Lots of open attraction towards Jamie here - both paper and celluloid Jamie Grin. So glad they've made it as TV series rather than a feature film, much more potential for detail on the history/botanicals/sex etc.

BOOK 1 SPOILER

I have found myself wishing they'd hurry up and get them married. I'm sure it happened a lot quicker in the book, but I've just realised that it's 15 years since I read the book.

Just watched episode 1 - I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected (generally films of books are never how they are in my head). I also quite like that it's going at a slow pace, a lot of stuff nowadays seems very rushed.

Do like a man in a kilt, and Jamie looks like he might fill his out very nicely Wink.

Re the books - I like the American ones, but have to skip the endless revolution and Lord John sections. I want the next book soon, as I really have to know what happens next, book 8 finished on a bit of a cliff-hanger...
