Anyone else seen it yet?

Want to come and drool over Detective Pookie with me?

And moan about the fact they seem to have forgotten that Hershel was a vet, poor Violet. We hardly knew ye Sad

Ok nitpick away. I just watched it.

LOVED Detective Pookie. I was initially creeped out by Darryl and Carol as a couple but I now think they would be perfect together.
Carol is so awesome. She was useless as a character for so long (although I appreciate she went through hell between her abusive husband and losing her daughter) but now she's turned into this strong cool and funny woman.
I still can't forget her zombie hunting to practice performing a Caesarean on Lori last season- the look on Glenn's face when she roped him in to help was superb.

Is it weird that I felt proud of our little group and all their new followers? Hero- worshipped Darryl was hilarious and so true to the fans of the show too.

I love Michonne on her horse and the fact that they've carried on with the bond she'd developed with Carl last season.

I was thoroughly freaked out by filthy lady and her mysterious moving sack. I was convinced Eddie was a zombie baby but from what I've read on TWOP it was her husband's head in that bag.

The end was rather tense. Swine flu?

I thought it was going to be a zombie baby too! I know she mentioned a husband but then there was the sack. I still kind of wish they would go there. The lack of walker children is unrealistic she says discussing zombies like they're real

I did think some kind of swine flu, they showed the sick boar in the woods too. On the other hand they showed the bleeding eyed walker through the fence a few times and Zombie Potter looked like he was bleeding from his eyes too. On the other other hand they made a big deal of 'Pookie' liking his fingers before Potter got sick. So many options.

I adore Daryl and Carol, I am still Angry that DH wouldn't let me name our kittens after them, even though they continue our sci-fi/fantasy theme.

On a positive note no more Carl's fucking stupid hat Grin

Ooh I've seen it (on NZ TV, only 32 hours behind the US. NZ Immigration should use this on their marketing)

I loved Carol and Daryl - are they a couple or just friends? I found it hard to understand what Daryl was saying in his first few scenes, it took a while to adjust to the accent. I really hope they give Carol something to do this season.

I assume the dead pig, dead boar and dead boy are connected. But they also focused on the water barrel in the shower just before Potter died, and the water barrel at the start of the episode with Rick, so maybe it's something like cholera?

They're going to need to reinforce those fences soon, I'd have thought they would have set up a better first line of defence. How do they get rid of all the zombie bodies that they've killed through the fence? Surely they will build up to be a mountain of zombies that can be climbed over?

I'm not sure about Maggie wanting a baby. She was the one who had to kill Lori by cesarean. That would be enough to put you off child bearing. Perhaps it's an indication of how safe they are all feeling now.

I knew the freaky lady in the woods would be bad news. And I loved Michonne on the horse with her sword, going out Governor hunting.

I think they are no walker children because sadly they get eaten before they have the chance to run away and turn. The zombies have been shown to be very strong (tearing chunks of flesh off adults) I can't imagine a young child getting away from them.
Sad

And no, Carol and Darryl aren't a couple (yet). They became close when he was the only one looking for her daughter.

There was a really horrible touch at the beginning of Season 2 just before Sophia disappeared.
They found a pile up of cars and in one of them was a gore- covered baby seat.

That really traumatised me.

Rick had to shoot a zombified young girl right at the start of Season One.

I loved Carol and Daryl - are they a couple or just friends?

I like the fact the writers are keeping it ambiguous rather than succumbing to the temptation of giving Daryl a lurve story. On the subject of couples, anyone else rooting for Richonne? Grin

Ooh richonne would be good. Think she might be a lesbian though, I thought she was in love with Andrea.

The pig and dead glasses boy have to be related

I'm a bit disappointed by the 'prosaicness' of a potential epidemic.
For three seasons they've been covered in gore, not bathed or cleaned weapons after using them and yet never caught anything and suddenly it's pandemic time?

Their lack of precaution regarding zombie debris always makes me laugh. I don't know if anyone has read the Mira Grant trilogy but in the books all the character had to take multiple blood tests as soon as they left safe areas to make sure they weren't contaminated. They also used special bleach showers and decontamined their clothes EVERY SINGLE TIME- the total opposite of Walking Dead.

Yesterday? Darryl licks his filthy fingers and then shakes someone's hands.
New woman spikes zombie heads through the fence and then snogs Tyrese while covered in zombie splatter. I swear there was some on her face too.
Lovely.

Anona, ^^ they seriously need to grow lavender in their new garden/farm for antibacterial purposes, see also numerous scenes with Rick/Lori snuggling etc. while covered in blood.

BUT didn't they work out a while back that they are all infected anyway, you turn when you die? After Shane died and Rick had to kill him, as he turned.

Therefore it doesn't matter how much zombie juice you get upon your person.

Report
anonacfr · 17/10/2013 13:52

Yes but they didn't know that for a while.

And besides the germs you'd pick from rotting tissue... It would infect food and drinking water.
It's amazing they haven't had any epidemics before now. Which is why it feels a little bit 'disappointing' as a plot device.

I still loved the episode!

First time ever I've downloaded before it came on UK TV. I thought a great first episode but remember after watching the first two series, where I could only watch in daytime and used to shudder at all the gore. Caught myself watching in the dark, in bed not even batting an eye at zombies being speared through the head while bouncing off a fence. I've evolved.

I don't know why they didn't call in the resident vet for Violet, I mean he was dishing out information on what to wear when gardening I'm sure he would have some opinion on poor old Violet's illness.

Carl is still an irritating little fecker though isn't he?

Loving Michonne, she's my girl crush.

Did anyone see the picture on Facebook from the set, where it had a photograph of the last day of shooting this series and a certain dead female character was in the picture? I thought they'd dropped a massive spoiler.

Nooooooo!!!! Why are you telling us?????

The pig thing is ambiguous. At the beginning it was panting and uncomfortable. Then later on it was dead but surrounded by piglets. I thought maybe it had died giving birth?

Of course swine flu/cholera/Ebola/whatever is what they were going for.

Silly question but how can I watch this is the UK?

I downloaded it from BitTorrent first thing Monday morning! Grin

Traumatised over lady I the woods. I mean you might make it on your "own turf" - but stranded at a foreign airport. Hmm

Daryl is awesome!

I'm on UK screenings so watched it this morning. I'm going to have to be careful of spoilers on this thread, unless someone starts another.

Anyway, I really liked it. I was getting bored with The Governor and his colony. Carl is much less annoying that he used to be. I laughed at whatsername, Maggie's sister, hugging Daryl. I'd get a sneaky cuddle if he came to tell me the boy I didn't really care about had been munched. He'd have to get me surgically removed.

No matter how many times it happens, I always jump when the walkers pop up - like when one suddenly appeared at the window behind Daryl.

Yes, to what people said about the infection risk from dead bodies - not zombification, just common or garden rotting corpse infections.

You'd have to have people whose job it was to cart the bodies away and burn them.

And the smell!

Report
limitedperiodonly · 19/10/2013 21:07

The smell would be terrible. But you'd probably not notice it. I lived in a flat below a hoarder it's called Diogene's Syndrome

There were Biblical infestations of flies sometimes but I couldn't smell that much.

I realised that normal people could so I'd never invite anyone round.

One day it was really bad and I called the council who said: 'Do you think she's dead?' and I said: 'No, I'm not that lucky.'

The person thought I was callous. I think she'd never had to put up with it.

Limited you poor thing.

I thought the smell of rotting cadavers was one that you can't get used to no matter what?

I have wondered in the past about the risks from being covered with zombie blood and brains - but none of them seemed particularly worried about it.

I think that the zombie husband and wife (the couple in the forest) will come back (literally) to bite them. And I think Violet will become a zombie pig, and form an alliance with newly-zombified lad (can't remember his name).

I did think it was all very bucolic and arcadian at the beginning - if you ignored the zombies at the fence.

I liked Carol's idea of bedtime stories for the children in the library - but I am not sure it would catch on in municipal libraries - lol!

I'm lucky enough never to have smelt a body. People do all the time though so I suppose they must get used to it. I wonder if that Silence of the Lambs Vaseline up the nose trick works?

I got used to my packrat neighbour's smell. Oh my, but the three days it took for the council to clear her one-bedroom flat was bad. It was disturbing years'-worth of rotting food, textiles, dead mice, insects and shit - cat and human that did it

But maybe my sense of smell isn't very good anyway. I started a new job once and they deliberately put me next to the smelly bloke.

I couldn't smell him unless it was really bad. Then I could detect a faint whiff of meat pies.

I usually come on these threads saying I wouldn't cope with a zombie apocalypse. But this has made me realise that I might be have useful powers - like one of those perfume companies' 'noses' only in reverse. Grin

It's not vaseline, it's camphor.

I'm sure you just get used to it - if only 0.5% of the population are alive then the place is going to honk.

I was a bit Hmm over the dying pig and thinking "oooh what a shame there's no vet around". What was he doing? twanging his falsie inside?

I'm very impressed with the introduction of D'Angelo - what's he hiding there? Raging alcoholic?

Oh I am soooooo coping with the zombie apocalypse.

I love WD! Carl irritates the life out of me. I used to want to slap Carol got being so weak (which is awful of me I know) but now I absolutely love her. Daryl would definitely get more than a sneaky hug off me Wink
I knew there was something with the weird dirty woman right away. She was so strange.
