He's going to lose a limb before the end of this programme. Poor bloke.

Just switched on and saw him limping. What is wrong with his leg?

A fabulous teacher and he certainly went the extra mile , however I wouldn't want to be his partner or children he would just have nothing left to give :(

He's hugely allergic to odd things and then he banged his leg where it was sore.

I was paying attention, honest.

I'm betting he doesn't have a partner or children

Thank God for dedicated people like him.

I know I am an old gimmer but I really despair for the future of this country when I see young people behaving like that.

What is wrong with his leg? Is it an ulcer?

He was great. The head seemed a bit awkward/embarrassed when he was trying to tell him to go to hospital. On my school my colleagues would have been a lot more forceful about making him look after himself. Once my colleague arrived at my house one morning to give me a lift to work turn refused to take me as I had a migraine but was stubbornly refusing to go back to bed as I thought I needed to see my y11s.

The thing is, teaching often attracts martyrs and perfectionists, but you quickly realise you can't keep up those traits without burning out.

I thought the HT was being a poor manager there TBH. If he was signed off sick for a week he should have been sent home. Really poor to allow your staff who are unfit for work, to carry on working.

He does seem like a fabulous teacher though, the children clearly love him and respect him.

Mr Gove needs to see this episode...

It's what many teachers are experiencing at the moment.

louloutheshamed · 11/10/2013 10:17

Yes I agree moaning.

He said something at the end like 'it showed the measure of the man', but really in the long term he should have sent him home.

I wonder if he did have a partner/wife/family? I suspect not. I think having dcs has made me a better teacher but also my work life balance is better now.

It also made me appreciate the fact that I am 'just' a classroom teacher- he was most animated when he was teaching maths, doing the silly voices, you could tell how much he loved it then. It was all the other shit he had to shovel as deputy head that got him down.

I thought Sheridan really grew up during the course of the year- on the results day she seemed
Like a different girl.

First time I had watched it and was so shocked at the poor bloke hobbling around the school. Yes the head should have been more forceful and yes Mr Gove should watch this.
I already had thought his condition was probably made worse by stress and was convinced when he deteriorated .He will send himself to an early grave if he does not start looking after himself or leaving teaching. Why did they say his job was safe for another year surely not on a temp contract?

I thought job being safe was from a performance management POV , as his position as DHT is probably somewhat dependant on sufficient pupils getting the expected a-c grades
