Seeing as the first thread is almost full, I thought I'd start a new one Grin

For good measure, here is Monkseal's blog for this week.

I may join you for this thread! Other one looked very long. Dh and I reckon it's between smug-Kimberly and woeful-ruby- not warmed to either! Would like to see frances or beca win though. What's the consensus around here?

Oh I like Becca! Christine is a close second.

I reckon Kimberley will win, she seems to have broad knowledge and a high standard of finished bakes.

I like Francis, especially now her flavours were good. In my opinion her pastry bits were the only ones that really hit the standard I expect groom GBBO. And I am fed up of people giving her a hard time for trying to be creative. It's a competition FGS! I want to see different, unusual and creative things

As long as fake Ruby doesn't win I don't care, although I'd like it to be Becca or Francis.

I think Frances might be coming into her own now and be the surprise winner. If not her, then I'd like Beca or Christine to win but I think they're likely to be the next two to go Sad

Team Beca checking in :)
Beca i enill!!

I like all of them. I think it's looking like Frances will win atm (because of the style-over-substance to substance-over-style storyline).

Ruby was definitely being a cow this week when Mel was helping someone when time was running out, needing her to give her a talking to. I was cross at Mel running over to her as well. The timing of it made it a completely bastardish thing to do.

Paul fancies ruby so she will win.
She irritates me no end.
Don't like Kimberly at all.
Would be happy if beca, Christine or Frances won, but I think Christine might go next week :(

I hope Ruby doesn't win cos Paul fancies her! It's gross and she is so fake with her "oh don't eat it its disgusting I'm so ashamed" dramas then they love it and she looks all smug and says "oh really?" fuck off! This week when she called Mel over made me really dislike her! I like Becca and Christine!

I want Cristine to win but I don't think she will either I hope she does manage to get everything right next week !!
Otherwise Francis or Beca.

We watch on catch up so I'm always a day behind!
I cannot stand self depreciating Ruby, always woe is me I am so pretty ans oh did Ianage to cook something?

Like Beca and Christine, Kimberly is a very good cook and has some stunning flavours and high standards but is ruthless. I'm nit sure if we met that I'd lke her.

Francis is my favourite. Her ideas don't always work but her standard of presentation is just incredible and so innovative.

Thanks for the new thread and Mighty Monk blog viking Thanks all the ingredients of another very good GBBO thread!!

There was a bit of animosity towards Christine at the end of the last one and I'm not mad about her but she's certainly not THAT bad (even though she performed squash the spotted dick and forgot that she'd done it but age gets to us all doesn't it?) Grin

IMO Ruby is amazing for 2O even though she has low self esteem issues,no one can fake so consistently.

I'm wondering if Frances will surprise everyone by winning.

I'd never watch watched it as I don't like baking and I don't like cake. GBBO was on this week after something else I was watching and I was hooked.

Reminded me that I do like pastry things and as my d (11) is currently in a baking phase, at least I can now enthusiastically suggest things to bake instead of having that sinking feeling when she asks if I'll help her bake a (sinking) cake.

I loved the atmosphere of it and I particularly loved Sue Perkins - "I've never eaten a nun" Grin

Paul H seems like a smug git but Mary Berry reminds me of the lovely ladies my mum plays golf and bridge with, well the lovelier ones who don't take it too seriously and ply me with gin.

Anyone with the desperately low self esteem she claims to have wouldn't put themselves forward for things like this. It is the same with X Factor and the like. You have to have a certain level of self-assurance and self-belief to enter yourself for these things.

I would love Christine to win, but I don't think she will.

Report
ppeatfruit · 03/10/2013 09:20

IMO Ruby doesn't claim to have low self esteem I reckon that anyone who disses their own efforts to the judges has problems. Ruby is a GOOD baker' so maybe she was persuaded by friends and family to enter.

Thank you for the new thread, Viking. I am illing today (ds1 gave me his cold, as something to remember him by, before he went back to university) so my head is full of cotton wool and snot, and I can't think of anything remotely interesting sparkling to say, at the moment - sorry. Sad

I sort of like them all, some more than others but I wouldn't mind hanging out for tea and cakes with anyone of them. I don't think there was ever a GBBO contestant I properly disliked.
Glad there is a new thread, I couldn't post on the other one from my phone anymore.

I like kimberly. She is good at what she does.

Ruby is annoying. She irritated me on tuesday when she shouted for mel at the last minute.

I also like christine but i am not sure about the other two. It is hard to pick which one will win.

Ruby is just such a messy baker. Her tables always a mess, her apron is disgusting and she uses her fingers to spread things. She needs to learn about hygiene.

Kimberly seems to be taking the whole thing too seriously. You can tell she's very competitive and there's loads going through her mind about the other bakers.

Letting Glenn go was he right decision I think. Beca's got the edge over him and she did good stuff this week. Her only downfall was not glazing her pastries. And Christine was terrible in the nun technical but made up for it afterwards with her pastries. So it had to be Glenn.

Yep, the needy "Mel, I need you" from Ruby was annoying. It's obviously her schtick but she needs to get over it. Perhaps it's a maturity thing? She is a great deal younger than most on there.

Kimberley is appearing very smug now but I don't know if that's her or the editing. I always rather like Frances' baking - I like it that she just does her own thing.

I wonder if Ruby is a MN child? Her mum is on here, what if she's been on here long enough to have followed/asked for advice with bringing Ruby up (she's only 20 so it's quite feasible) Shock

I think she just needs to mature a bit and she'll be fine I often cringe when thinking about some of the things I did and said at her age .

I don't know who I want to win now, I was originally rooting for Howard, then Glen.

I know it's not an endearing trait but I don't think you can take it too seriously. It's a competition on national tv doing something you love. Why not put your all in to it!
