What is the difference between sky Atlantic hd and normal sky Atlantic?

Basically, I got addicted to Girls season 1 when it was shown on sky Atlantic last year.mso, hoping to watch season 2 when it aired I went onto my sky player thingy online, but it refused to let me watch saying I needed to upgrade. I already have sky Atlantic ( ad think I pay extra in my sub for it) so why am I not allowed to watch programmes because they say HD. Surely the channels should be the same. I'm really pissed off and want to leave sky anyway. Still want to watch season 2 so will probably buy from amazon.

Have you got a Sky HD box? You can't see HD channels on a big standard box and if you don't subscribe to HD you don't get to see HD channels.

Well I can watch sky Atlantic, or at least, I could the last time I checked, but not sky Atlantic HD.

HD is the high definition which is a supposedly superior version and, as homebythesea says, you need a special box to get anything in HD presumably because there is more info transmitted to get the more detailed pictures and the old boxes can't receive it all or because Sky are thieving bastards using clever marketing to get more money out of us

Basically, there's £10 a month in it. You need to upgrade to a SkyHD box (even the remote control is a different colour Hmm) and pay an extra £10 a month for the privilege. Then, you can watch the HD channels. Always assuming you have an HD TV?

You can watch HD on a normal telly, I think. You just don't get the benefit of the HD-ness. I didn't think Atlantic and Atlantic HD had different programmes, though - I've never noticed that.

I am not positive but I think the HD channels get some shows earlier than the regular channels but the same show will then be on the regular channel a couple of weeks later.

Sky Atlantic and sky Atlantic hd are exactly the same channel, only one is in hd the other is not.

Are you trying to download? If you are you will need to download the non hd version (search through the magnifying glass). If you are just trying to download for a Most Popular list or menu then they might only list the hd version, but there will be an SD version though search.

Also sky player (now Sky Go), is a subscription service for download. Are you trying to watch it on an iPad or something?

Yeah, was trying to watch on sky demand on ipad. I watched all of season 1 in this way. Season 1 was also on sky Atlantic so don't understand why I sudden toys don't have permission. I can definitely watch sky Atlantic. As I just did, but just not the hd version. Never mind. Will buy the series in amazon. Just annoying that's all.

Actually Sleepy I think I had the same thing once. I was trying to watch something and only the first episode seemed to be on the normal Atlantic but the whole series seemed to be on HD. You can't compare the two on the on screen planner as mine just says on the HD channel to upgrade.

I'm sure it must be a sneaky way to make people upgrade and pay extra £10 a month which I refuse to do.

i would like to compare the 2 channels but there doesn't seem an easy way to do this.

They keep calling me about HD - honestly I'm not a geeky anorak, I couldn't care less that the "picture quality is better"

I am pretty sure they will start moving the most popular programmes onto HD only, in the same way they did analogue to digital, to con entice us to pay the extra.

Honestly the content of the channels is exactly the same, it's only picture quality that is different, and even then I only really notice the difference watching sport or fast moving pictures really . I may or may not have connections within the organisation Wink

I've just had a look and Girls isn't on sky go for on demand download (I have full package with everything going all bells and whistles) could that be why maybe?

Once you've gone HD you can never go back. It makes you feel like your vision's gone a bit blurry.
