What are your top five favourites?

I'm expecting lots of North and Souths and the Firth P&P
Hoping I might find something new that's not so well known like bright star

Not sure if these qualify as costume dramas, but I love...

Casanova with David Tennant
The Tudors with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
Merlin with Colin Morgan
Downton Abbey with Maggie Smith
Game of Thrones with Peter Dinklage

Also Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst, it is very slow but worth sticking with.

A film I saw recently, A Royal Affair, which is Danish and subtitled and not so well known, was great. It is a true story, but as I am not familiar with Danish history like I am with British I found the story very intriguing.

Also have you seen the series Desperate Romantics with Rafe Spall? It is about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and very good fun.

Persuasion with Amanda Root

Can I have 'Lost in Austen' with Gemma Arterton and Jemima Rooper, or doesn't it count?

I love lost in Austen
Have what you want Grin

Some good suggestions
Some I've seen, some not and some I've obviously seen the wrong version such as vanity fair with Witherspoon

I'm currently watching R P-J as went worth again but will find all the new ideas and get them lined up
Happy Grin

One just for you TomDudgeon:

The 1980s adaptation of Coot Club and The Big Six, called Swallows And Amazons Forever.

Ooh
I've seen the swallows and amazons film (a few times Blush)
But didn't know there were others
Will hunt that out and get the kids to watch it with me, especially as we're in norfolk and their grandparents have a boat on the broads.
Brilliant thank you

Though not sure on the title if its the broads lot. Only the Ds met them though of course he meant them to meet (cootsin the north)

here it is

Yes, the title is silly. I always hoped it meant they were going to adapt more of the books, but they didn't.

I really liked Lark Rise to Candleford Blush

There is something really nice about watching something where the disasters are always small scale :)

Emma with Romolo Garai and Johnny Lee Miller.
Persuasion with Amanda Root
Casanova was really good

Can't think of any others apart from the obvious ones.

Pancake - the one with Katherine Hepburn as Jo?

Yes Alba ! I think it being black and white just adds to the melodrama.

YY to Bleak House, He Knew He Was Right and The Way We Live Now. All utterly devastating mind you. Sobbed my way through the last couple of eps of Bleak House. The female leads were all amazing.

I can honestly say that Brightstar is the best film of ANY type costume or not (apart from West Side Story) that I have ever seen I got the DVD and I heart it!!!!!

Alibaba I also enjoyed Lark Rise though the book is better!

The Duchess and Barry Lyndon are among our favourites. And I love Amadeus even though it is not exactly a serious film.

You definitely saw the wrong version of Vanity Fair! Natasha Little is perfect as Becky Sharp. Have you seen Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds?
