I find the influence of religion v interesting. The priors and abbesses had so much power in those days- the threat of immortal damnation was enough to scare any man.
The mixture of cruelty and piety is fascinating.

Hi - there is another thread on here about WWE - the book did go on forever, but the series is quite watchable, although everyone is very clean and healthy looking! Now Borgen has finished, its about the only thing worth watching on a Saturday, I usually record it and do my ironing in front of it.... I think it is a really interesting period of history, and could do with less dumbing down, I think the kids would have a lot of fun learning about the black death/violent executions, the rich and powerful vs poor peasants, it is a shame it is overlooked on the curriculum, and they have to study the Tudors over and over again!

I love it!

The series is more sex-orientated (in the book godwyn doesn't have a crush on carys) and hasn't shown merthyn and carys's relationship in the same way. Or how gwenda is related to the story. There is also far less emphasis on the king/politics.

I got the book cheap on Kindle but haven't read it yet. I heard the series is quite different?

Clearly.

Evil Godwyn and his mother are like cockroaches. Even the plague can't kill them.
Loved the pus-filled flower though.

I am not quite sure who the eldest son is out of Ralph or Merthyn. Not that it seemed to matter too much- it was a bit of an anti-climax. And I'm sure that plague deaths are meant to be quite gross, not peaceful like Mother Cecilia's and bastard-son mother's.
Just watched last Saturday's episode in case you were wondering grin

I find it rather entertaining! I like the way all these bad things keep happening to the 'good' characters and just when you think things will improve, they just... don't.
Ben Chaplin with a bear is rather attractive.
